As Term 2 gets underway for Undergraduate students, this is just a reminder of the various services that the Students’ Union also provides for the large Postgraduate community we have here at Warwick! Together with our PG social space, The Graduate (located next to The Dirty Duck on central campus), we have a dedicated section on our website detailing everything that’s going on for postgrads, together with a new part-time member of student staff who’s helping us out with PG communications. Feel free to get in touch with her via emily. dunford@warwicksu.com if there are any PG-centred events you think she can help publicise! There’s been some interesting progress recently on the issue of PG funding, with the announcement of a new Postgraduate Loan scheme for those wanting to continue on to further study – don’t forget that if you’re an Undergraduate who’s interested in staying on, however, I’m also here to help. Change100 is a programme of paid summer internships and mentoring, designed to support the career development of talented university students who define as having a disability or long-term health condition. Their ambition is to change the employment landscape and improve accessibility for students and graduates, by removing the barriers that some have experienced in getting into and staying in work. Lord Rootes Fund
Applications are still open for the Lord Rootes Memorial Fund, which provides subsidies for exciting or creative student-led projects. Previous recipients have included Edinburgh Fringe shows, TV mini-series, international expeditions and more. The deadline is midday on Thursday 8th January (Week 1) – head over to the University’s website for further details!
Student Switch Off
Student Switch Off is your chance to win prizes for yourself and a party for your hall, all for doing easy things to save energy! There are loads of big events coming up this term – here are just a few of the highlights… One World Week is a celebration of the University’s vibrant international community,
taking place during Week 4 - expect massive events, continental food sampling, incredible society performances and much more besides!
Bandsoc’s annual showcase of Warwick-based musical talent, Battle of the
Bands, also starts on Tuesday Week 4 and runs right through until the end of term – make sure you come along to the heats and find out who’ll be running in the running for this year’s title.
For those who like a tipple or two, don’t miss the Real Ale Festival later in the term, which is one of the biggest student-run events of its type anywhere in the country and will offer up hundreds of ales, ciders and perries for your delectation! All this, plus the return of Varsity, in which our esteemed sportsfolk start dishing out their customary thrashing of our arch-rivals at Cov Uni – this happens every year, but it’s cute that they keep coming back for more…
