Sabb Blab Hello, lovely people! I trust you’re all settling back in to the routine of University after the Christmas break – don’t forget, however, that if you’re ever experiencing any difficulties with your course or life here in general, the Advice & Welfare Team are on-hand to help. Come and speak to us in SUHQ or visit our Help Up Help You pop-up stall throughout the term – more details later in this issue.

I’m particularly looking forward to the SU’s Disability Awareness Week in Week 3, which will feature a range of different events aiming to raise awareness of the various issues confronting disabled students today. Kicking off with a visit and talk from NUS President Toni Pearce, it’ll be inclusive, informative and - most important of all - great fun. I look forward to seeing you there! Then, of course, there’s One World Week – one of the biggest student-run events of its kind anywhere in the UK. You simply can’t miss it as thousands of students take over the SU and bring an international flavour to campus – make sure you get stuck in! - Cat Turhan

news in brief GUM Clinic – Tuesday Week 3 Got a bit careless with the contraceptives over Christmas? Don’t panic if so - there’s another chance to get yourself checked out for sexually-transmitted infections at our free & confidential GUM Clinic on Tuesday 21st January. Visit the Central Meeting Room of SUHQ from 11:30am to be seen!

Winter Graduation Menu in Xananas – Week 3 Congratulations to all returning graduates if you’re back for the ceremonies in Week 3 – to celebrate, we’ll have a series of specials which will be running alongside our main menu in Xananas restaurant from Wednesday to Friday!

Warwick Think Tank event – Thursday Week 3 What should a government be required to provide? Dr. Stephen Davies, Education Director at The Institute of Economic Affairs, speaks to Warwick Think Tank about the private provision of traditionally ‘public goods’, with a special focus on infrastructure. This talk will take place on Thursday 23rd January at 7pm in S0.21.

Warwick Debating Society - Friday Week 3 Should the UK exit the European Union? Everyone’s welcome to come and participate in another lively debate on a hot topic from 5pm in IMC.02 on Friday 24th January!

Battle of the Bands – starts Thursday Week 4 Get ready to rock as Bandsoc fires up the amps and prepares to showcase the wide range of musical talent on offer here at Warwick! Nearly 30 acts will be performing across 6 heats in the hopes of bagging the opening slot on the Main Stage at this year’s Summer Party. Who will follow in the footsteps of last year’s winners, the inimitable (not to mention utterly ridiculous) Nurse Joy? Come along to the first heat in Copper Rooms 2 from 8pm on Thursday 30th January to find out who’s in with a shout! Want to see your society event featured in a future issue? Email chris.carter@warwicksu.com with all the details!

A true highlight of the SU calendar, One World Week is the University of Warwick’s largest student-run event. Returning bigger and better than ever in Week 4, OWW aims to stimulate the personal development of all students at the University by inspiring a worldview based on acceptance and appreciation of the world’s mosaic of cultures. Run by over 200 student volunteers and incorporating more than 10,000 individual participants, One World Week will see campus come alive through a series of debates, discussions, parades and performances, plus a variety of sporting tournaments, cultural exhibitions and workshops. The week is divided into separate themed days, each incorporating different aspects of the festival as follows:

MONDAY – The Bazaar (Atrium, 12pm-4pm) TUESDAY – Charity Day (Atrium, 12pm-4pm) WEDNESDAY – Outreach Day (Atrium, 10am-4pm) THURSDAY – Careers Day (Atrium, 12pm-4pm) FRIDAY – The Fête (Atrium & Copper Rooms, 12pm-4pm) Highlights of this year’s programme include the legendary OWW Fashion Show in the Arts Centre on Friday of Week 3, together with a World Music Concert the following Monday – there’ll also be a delicious Food Festival in Xananas throughout the week, with international specials and a World Buffet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday! Make sure you visit their website for full details of all the week’s daytime and evening activities as soon as they’re confirmed: www.oneworldweek.net.

We’re relaunching our Hungry for Feedback campaign in Week 4, in which we ask for examples of helpful or unhelpful comments you’ve received on your assessed work. Last year’s campaign led to University-wide reform on assessment periods – let’s see what we can accomplish as a student body this time around! There’ll also be a giant Pacman on campus, so there is that to look forward to…

WE’VE GOT A SPECIAL TREAT IN STORE FOR SPORTS FANS IN WEEK 4, AS WE’LL BE SCREENING THIS YEAR’S SUPERBOWL LIVE IN THE ATRIUM ON 2ND FEBRUARY. THERE’LL BE THEMED DRINKS AND SNACKS AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT THE GAME, PLUS THE FAMOUS HALF-TIME SHOW ONSCREEN - THIS YEAR FROM BEHATTED POP WONDER BRUNO MARS. STAY TUNED TO THE SU WEBSITE FOR FULL DETAILS WHEN THEY’RE ANNOUNCED!
