Sabb Blab We’re midway through Term 2 already, and that means just one thing for Warwick’s sports teams: the return of Varsity Season! Throughout Week 5, our clubs will be heading into battle against their arch-rivals over at Coventry University to determine the finest sporting institution this side of the A45. Warwick remains unbeaten for 24 years now – needless to say, this year we’re looking to make it a solid quarter of a century undefeated!
Sports Officer sports@ warwicksu.com
The Varsity website is now live and contains details all the fixtures, plus the chance to buy tickets and merchandise (including our amazing new ‘Thunder Sticks’ to help make a racket from the stands). The finale will be the Ice Hockey match at Coventry Skydome on Saturday 7th February – tickets include return coach transport, so make sure you come along and cheer on Warwick’s finest as they aim to tell Cov to puck right off (…sorry). Win or lose (that’ll surely never happen), one thing’s for certain: this year’s tournament is set to be absolutely epic! - RUBY COMPTON-DAVIES
news in brief All Student Meeting – Week 5
Term 2’s ASM will be held on Monday of Week 5 at 5:45pm in the Atrium. Officers will be taking questions from the student body before the floor is opened to debate the motions being proposed – make sure you visit www. warwicksu.com/asm to read up on the various submissions! Voting then opens online at 12pm on Tuesday 3rd February and closes at 12pm on Friday 6th, with the results announced shortly after. It’s your Union - be a part of it!
Officer Elections Nominations
Do you have any ideas that you think would benefit the student body, or fancy a shot at running your SU next year? If so, don’t forget that the nominations for this year’s upcoming Officer Elections will be opening on Friday Week 5 – there are 7 full-time Sabbatical Officer positions up for grabs, plus a host of part-time roles. All the candidates are voted on by the student body in Week 8, with the winners taking up their positions for the start of the next academic year!
Mystery Diner
We are constantly trying to develop and improve our Food & Beverage outlets here at the Students’ Union (The Bread Oven, Curiositea, The Dirty Duck and Xananas), and so we’re looking for people to take part in our new Mystery Diner scheme. All you’ll need to do is come along to one of our outlets and complete a questionnaire about your visit. In return, we’ll reimburse you for up to £5 off any food or drink you purchase there! If you’d like to take part, sign up at www.warwicksu.com/mysterydiner.
Pizazz – Sunday Week 5
Involving over 13 societies and around 300 students, Pizazz is the University’s biggest dance showcase – this year benefitting Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice in Coventry. Pizazz 2015 takes place on Sunday 8th February at the Royal Spa Centre in Leamington, with a matinée at 3pm followed by an evening performance at 7:30pm. Tickets cost £7.50 students and £10 for adults, and will be available soon via the SU website! Want to see your society event featured in a future issue? Email chris.carter@warwicksu.com with all the details!
Help Us Help You
Warwick Students’ Union is a democratic, charitable organisation which exists to provide services to you, the student body. We’re run by students for students – but we know that many of you have different needs and expectations from us. It’s therefore that time of year again when we ask YOU for your opinions on everything we do here at the SU. In our annual Help Us Help You survey, we want to know what you think about our services and facilities. Happy with our various welfare provisions, support services, clubs and societies? Think our food outlets have got it just right, or could be offering something more? Reckon there’s not enough Buffalo-Mating-Call Ravestep played in The Copper Rooms? Whether you love us, hate us or don’t really engage with us at all, we want to hear from you! The survey will be running online throughout Week 5 - there’ll be a prize draw for completed entries, and all your feedback will be used to inform our plans for the organisation going forward. This is your chance to directly influence the different areas of our operation - if you don’t tell us what you think, we’ll never know! Head to www.warwicksu.com/helpushelpyou to complete the survey – we look forward to hearing from you!

Unshakeable. Unforgiving. Undefeated. So, it all comes down to this. For 24 years, Warwick’s sports teams have maintained an unbeaten record against our competitors over at Cov Uni, and now we’re looking to hit the big 25. This year’s Varsity tournament kicked into life in Week 4 with the Basketball opener, and will continue throughout Week 5. Every victory matters, and that’s why we need YOU to come along and cheer on our sporting lads and lasses as they head into battle! Tickets for the Grand Finale on Saturday 7th February - a showdown between our fine institutions’ respective Ice Hockey teams - are available now via the Varsity website (varsity.warwicksu.com), where you can also view the fixture list and buy Team Warwick merchandise. Later on, it’s all back to ours for the After-Party as our cheesy midweek favourite from years gone by, Score!, makes a return for one night only.
The 36th Warwick University Real Ale Festival will be coming to campus from 12th– 14th February! This year they’re promising their best festival yet with over 120 beers and 30+ ciders, along with the usual helpings of fruit wines and Turbo Purple. Following the success of their international beers last year, these will also make a return – as will the Hog Roast (now with added vegetarian sausages!) and live entertainment from Dr. Busker. You can view their preliminary Ale, Cider and Foreign Beer lists at www.realale.uwcs.co.uk. Bottoms up!
