Sabb Blab I can’t believe we’re midway through Term 2 already! As per usual, Week 5 marks the opening of nominations for the SU Officer Elections, in which the elected candidates become the officers who run your Students’ Union during the next academic year. Being an officer is a huge opportunity - you will have the honour of representing the student body, plus it’s a massive CV boost. There are seven full-time paid positions up for grabs, along with various part-time officer roles which can be done alongside your studies.

DEMOCRACY & DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

The elections themselves take place in Week 8 of this term - to find out more, visit www.warwicksu.com/elections. Alternatively, you can email me via cosmo.march@warwicksu.com or just come by my office in SUHQ and I’ll be happy to answer any of your election-related queries! Don’t forget to get involved in this term’s All Student Meeting on Monday of Week 5 as well – if you can’t make it along on the day, be sure to vote on the motions online afterwards so that your individual voice can be heard. Have a great fortnight! - Cosmo March

news in brief Lit. Week – Week 5 Lit. Week is an annual event at Warwick celebrating everything literature-related. Look out for a range of events from screenings and story slams to careers and coffee mornings during Week 5 – visit www.facebook.com/ warwicklitsoc/events for the full schedule!

Sport Allies Week – Week 5 Sport Allies is a new charity founded by students at Warwick which aims to educate young people against homophobia in sport. They’ll be holding various talks, workshops and events throughout Week 5 – head to www.sportallies.org for more information.

Economics Summit – Friday & Saturday Week 5 Tickets for one of our biggest student-run events at the University – the annual Economics Summit - sold out in record time yet again when they went on sale earlier in the term. If you were lucky enough to bag one, make sure you visit www.warwickeconomicssummit.com for all the latest news and speaker confirmations as soon as they’re announced!

RAG & Jailbreak present LOST – Saturday Week 5 On February 8th at 9am, Warwick Jailbreak and RAG will be mounting a first-of-its-kind event. LOST takes place over the weekend and will involve being blindfolded, driven somewhere unknown and given the weekend to get back to campus for free. It’s the ultimate race home, and all for a great local charity (Bath Place in Leamington), so be sure to support your friends if they’re taking part!

Pizazz – Sunday Week 5 The University of Warwick’s biggest dance spectacular returns to the Royal Spa Centre in Leamington on 9th February for two performances: a matinee at 3pm, then an evening show at 7:30pm. Buy your tickets from them out on the Piazza on Tuesday of Week 5, then come along to watch Warwick’s finest dancing talent in action as they raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital! Want to see your society event featured in a future issue? Email chris.carter@warwicksu.com with all the details!

Help Us Help You

It’s that time of the year when we’ll be asking you to Help Us Help You by filling out our annual membership survey. Throughout Week 5, you won’t be able to turn anywhere in the SU without running into Jerry the Owl (that’s short for ‘Jerry Inquire’, incidentally - see what we did there? Alright, admittedly it’s fairly rubbish) entreating you to “give a hoot” and let us know your views. The SU is a non-profit membership organisation – all the money generated by our commercial activities in The Copper Rooms, Xananas, The Dirty Duck, The Bread Oven, The Terrace Bar and Curiositea is directly reinvested into student services such as clubs & societies, Advice & Welfare facilities, democracy, entertainment and much more. In short, we exist solely to provide a wealth of activities and services for YOU, the students of Warwick. We want your student experience to be the best that it can be, and that’s why we’ll be asking for your opinion on everything we do. Do you love us here at the SU, or rarely engage with us? Do you think there’s an area we can improve on, or have any suggestions on how to go about it? If so, fill out a paper form or complete the survey online at www.warwicksu.com/ helpushelpyou. All your feedback is important to us and frequently forms the core of our plans going forward - completed surveys will also be entered into a prize draw with loads of goodies up for grabs!

Thursday 6th February Curiositea 4pm

It’s time for the 35th Warwick University Real Ale Festival! Join us from the 13th-15th February for three nights filled with beer, music and food – open to students, staff and the public alike. This year, the Real Ale Society has shipped in even more ales, ciders and wines for you to indulge in. With their new foreign beers selection, you don’t even have to limit yourself to just UK ales – and for those of you up to the challenge, the famous Turbo Purple will also be available! Britain’s last Victorian pub singer, the legendary Dr Busker, will again be performing on Thursday, with Warwick Big Band playing on Friday and Warwick Brass Society on Saturday. The return of the hog roast means you will not be disappointed by the food either! Visit www.realale.uwcs.co.uk for more information, and grab your tickets via the Warwick SU website.

All Student Meetings are a cornerstone of the SU’s democratic process. Any student can submit a motion for discussion, and if it’s adopted this will then become SU policy. If there’s something you want to change here at the University, ASMs are a great way of getting the issue on the agenda!

Term 2 Meeting

Monday 3rd February at 5:30pm in the Atrium – open to all to debate the issues submitted. If you can’t make it along, however, the ASM will also be streamed live via our website!

Voting Opens

Tuesday 4th February at 12pm via www.warwicksu.com/asm. Voting only takes a few moments and is all done online!

Voting Closes

Friday 7th February at 12pm - results announced later that day. Don’t let decisions get made on your behalf – be a part of it!
