Continuing the legacy established by her father Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, Neshama is collaborating with THE GLORY TO GOD SINGERS, a Baptist choir, for a deeply moving and entertaining performance that will include her father’s incomparable melodies and her own inspiring original compositions. With sold-out performances in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Chicago and Jerusalem, this folk/world-soul band of “neo-Hasidic hipsters” makes its DC-area debut at the Washington Jewish Music Festival. ZUSHA’S music is a blend of folk, jazz, reggae, ska, gypsy swing and traditional Jewish soul that borrows lines from ancient liturgy. Their self-titled debut EP launched to #9 on Billboard’s World music chart.

Disbanded by the 1954 Algerian Revolution, an orchestra of young Jews and Muslims in the city of Algiers went silent for sixty years.That is, until filmmaker Safinez Bousbia fell in love with their infectious Chaabi music – Sephardic Spanish rhythms with Arabic sound – and brought the orchestra back together, for a show reminiscent of The Buena Vista Social Club.

THE EPICHORUS is an eclectic ensemble stirring the sounds of Indian and Judeo-Arabic retro-folk music. GOLEM is a klezmer rock sensation, electrifying dance floors worldwide with their globetrotting goulash of Jewish, Slavic and Gypsy folk songs. Known for their chaotic behavior live, this Eastern European folk-punk band performs with theatricality, humor, and fearless wild energy. They have four critically acclaimed albums and recently appeared in a 2014 episode of the hit TV show Louie. Presented with Sixth & I Historic Synagogue


SATURDAY, MAY 16, 8:00 PM Israeli clarinetist ANAT COHEN has taken the jazz world by storm, winning a wealth of accolades for her expressive virtuosity and stage presence, and has appeared at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center and other premiere venues. Cohen and her quartet play a range of genres, from Afro-Cuban and Latin jazz to klezmer and contemporary Brazilian. The New York Times describes Cohen as “a clarinetist of reliable ebullience” and “a revelation.” Funded by the Arthur Tracy “The Street Singer” Endowment Fund. Honoring the memory of and musical legacy of Arthur Tracy—the renowned radio, stage and screen singer whose talents delighted millions around the world—the arts programs supported by this fund continue Tracy’s ability to entertain for years to come.
