Oscar-nominated filmmaker Daniel Raim draws on behind-the-scenes footage, archival stills, and original interviews with Jewison, Topol (Tevye), composer John Williams, lyricist Sheldon Harnick, and actresses Rosalind Harris, Michele Marsh, and Neva Small. Like their European counterparts, many Sephardic Jews and Jews from Arab lands left their homelands for the promise of freedom and opportunity in Israel. Unbeknownst to them, these Mizrahim were to be relegated to bleak transit camps and development towns and kept from enjoying full rights of Israeli citizenship. Through interviews and rich archival footage, Franco-Israeli director Michale Boganim explores the history of discrimination against socalled “non-white” Jews in the Promised Land.
