Top ten sports moments (continued) Wrestling-Sectional Meet
Zach/Clint State Wrestling
After working hard all summer, Zach Walgren was finally rewarded with a trip to the State Wrestling Tournament. “I wrestled once a week in Columbus and once a week in Washington, so seeing all of that hard work be put to use is a dream come true,” commented Walgren. Only 16 wrestlers from each weight division out of the entire state of Iowa qualify for the tournament, making this achievement a tremendous honor. Although Stout’s wrestling career is over, Walgren is confident he can qualify for State again and put forth a better showing after working hard in the off season.
“Walking out of the tunnel looking around just makes the hair on your neck stand up with excitement.”-Clint Stout, ‘10.
Girls Substate Softball
A much improved Washington Wrestling team earned their place in the record books by being the first team in school history to qualify for the Sectional Meet after placing 2nd at the district meet. This year’s squad of wrestler’s were much improved from the year previously, and much of this new success can be credited to the leadership showcased by the Senior class and the work some wrestlers put forth in the off season. Although the team loses a large class of Senior’s, a talented 8th grade class along with more experienced underclassmen will be sure to bridge the gap left behind. “I feel like next year we will be able to step up and lead the team on to an even more successful season,” commented Junior Tyler Jaspering.

“It’s pretty awesome to be the first team in school history to qualify for regional duals.” -Joel Vittetoe, ‘10.
Bowling
Kaleb Rich Sports Editor The girls softball team had a very successful season last year in which they reached the substate final and eventually lost that game to the number 1 ranked Clear Creek Amana Clippers. The Clippers went on to win the state championship. The demons had many players land All-Conference Awards. They also had a few players receive All-District Awards, and they also had a couple of players receive All-State Awards. The demons finished the season at 2 games above .500. Even though their record does not show how much of a successful year it was for them, look at the team reaching the substate final. That speaks for itself to how much work the girls put in in the offseason and the season to get to that point.
“It’s an amazing feeling to be in the same category as Stephanie Rich and Mary Berdo.” -Cassey Sobaski ’10.
