There always are lists of resolutions to accompany the New Year; lists of promises to keep, others to renounce. Lists of cards sent and received. A list of lists that clutter the desk, fill the screen, bother the mind. When it comes to an A to Z compilation of people on a social list, it may be best to think of the names as friends on the one hand, and, ideal dinner guests on the other. The custom provides continuity with the past and suggests a life lived to the fullest in a city of infinite possibilities that has no need to apologize for itself as a fascinating seat of power where versatility is key.
