Ichatrina vs Ichabbie ladymargo + sianyoude ladymargo sianyoude This is a very controversial issue in the SH fandom.. I love Sleepy Hollow and I get why people ship Ichabbie but I personally don’t. Ichabod has a beautiful wife, and they are still very much in love with one another, and she’s stuck in Purgatory and he just wants to free her so they can be together! IT’S A LOVE STORY. WHY DOESN’T EVERYONE WANT THIS HAPPY REUNION?! Ichabod and Abbie work really well as friends anyway, their friendship is brilliant. I’ll tell you why, honestly and without malice… For me it’s because I’ve seen and even shipped (hello, Anne/Gil) plenty of gorgeous white female characters and the men who adore them. It is a staple of pop culture media… The thing is, even here I have interest (for backstory’s sake) and would probably ship it except for this absolutely singular condition on American TV that is: -A black female lead, who is in a purposely UST heavy relationship with a manic pixie dream guy. As a black female fan, shit like that just doesn’t happen to black girls. Throw in the fact that she isn’t visibly mixed and darker than a paper bag and it’s even more rare. And I haven’t even mentioned the epic amounts of chemistry and just how damn well these two actors play off each other… I’m savoring a place in American TV fandom I’ve never had and in the back of mind am wondering if it will ever happen again.

Honestly, as little as we’ve seen Katrina, her character is still treated far better than the average black woman is in a narrative, when she exists. You know what I’m used to? The obese sassy wife in the Progressive commercial, the Pine Sol lady, Zoe not even being allowed to cry for beloved husband, Wash because she’s too much of an SBW (“strong black woman”)… And now we’re seeing the full range of emotions, and awesome, and flaws played by this stunningly beautiful black actress… She seriously has Disney princess looks…and here’s the key…IS BEING TREATED LIKE ONE. I flip the channel to FX and I’m back to what’s the norm…Gabourey Sidibe literally playing a sassy pin-cushion on American Horror Story…while bland lead white girl gets to love. So, there are my reasons.
