Studio 1 & Car Park Age: 8–12 (week 1) 13–18 (week 2) Places: 25 ParkourDance encourages exploration, insight, strength and self-expression through moving in relation to the environment, body and mind. This ParkourDance project has been tailored to the specific aim of creating a site specific performance piece at the end of the week fusing parkour and street dance. There will be a warm up, technique and creative section in both the streetdance and parkour sessions. The afternoon session is slightly longer to allow for setting the choreography in the space for performance.

Studio 2 Age: 13–18 (Weeks 1 & 3) Age: 8–12 (Weeks 2 & 4) / Places: 10 Chocolate Films is a professional film production company that prides itself on offering young people engaging hands-on media workshops and courses. Each week a professional filmmaker will run a five-day long workshop on: Documentary Making (week 1), Music Video Production (week 2), Masterclass on all aspects of Film Production (week 3) and Video Poetry (week 4). Skills covered include script writing, directing, filming and editing.

Watermans Gallery Age: 13 –18 / Places: 14 The creative industries include film, music, fashion, animation, photography, architecture, computer games and crafts so if you would like to be creative with film, music, poetry, photography, etc, where better to be than involved with this diverse workshop. Come and explore these creative areas and work alongside industry professionals, learning new digital skills and help build a fixed digital installation that will platform your work and inspire your audience.

Watermans Terrace and Riverside Gallery Age 13 –18 (week 1) & 8 –12 (week 2) Places: 15 Workshops include a demonstration of techniques and design examples, using wood and wire to build an internal structure of a sculpture, papier-mache and collage, giving participants an opportunity to practice building their own individual small-scale sculptures. Participants will then work collaboratively to explore ideas, investigate materials, design and create larger sculptures/ installations for a space outside of Watermans.

Studio 1 Age: 13–18 / Places: 20 Zu Aerial utilise aerial circus and dance theatre to create highly visual evocative work. Workshops will include movement and dance-based warm-ups and games to explore: contact dance, movement and physicality, acro-balance (people balancing!), working with partners learning technique and lifts, throughout the week. As the week unfolds, participants will choose one of Trapeze, Cocoons and Harness to focus on for the rest of the week for the final show.

Age: 13–18 / Places: 20 Are you creative? Do you enjoy performing? Do you have something to say about youth culture? In this week-long intensive course you will acquire the skills to create a completely new piece of dynamic theatre exploring ideas and issues that effect you and other young people in your area. At the end of the week you will perform on stage in front of an invited audience.

Watermans Gallery Age: 13–18 / Places: 14 Come and learn how to design Avatars using simple tools and navigate virtual bodies online and work in virtual reality world “Second Life” to learn the digital media skills to design and navigate your own avatar creation. Participants must have general computer knowledge and an interest in using virtual worlds.

Watermans Car Park Age: 8–12 (week 1) & 13–18 (week 2) Places: 15 There’s much more to Graffiti Art than spraying paint on a wall. Paint My Panda is run by artist Claire Rye who has been involved in the graffiti scene for the last 15 years. The workshops are educational, fun and can be worked to any theme. Participants will learn new skills, develop their individual style and creativity and have the chance to create something to be seen for months afterwards. Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.

Watermans Theatre Age: 13–18 / Places: 30 This course lasts for two weeks and with the expertise of Theatre Workout’s team, participants will develop and perform a shortened version of a West End musical with an urban setting. Participants will learn acting, singing and dancing techniques focussing on the skills they want to develop. At the end of the two weeks, they will perform their musical on the professional stage. No previous experience is necessary, just enthusiasm.

Watermans Theatre Age: 8–12 / Places: 20 Create a performance based on an old tale in an urban setting. Learn drama and storytelling techniques such as: devising, character, use of voice, physical theatre, movement, staging, and use of props. This course will build theatre based skills, confidence, team work and use of the imagination. On the last day, you will perform your show in the theatre.

Watermans into one giant game for young people. Every week there will be a range of arts activities run by some of the most fun people in the business. We’ll be making music in the theatre, painting the car-park, and building sculptures on the terrace. To make it more fun there will be a BBQ, films and competitions everyday. There will be DJs some days and surprises on others. Everyone will be welcome whether you are taking part or not as it will be a cool place to hang out. All you have to do is choose from the list of activities in this brochure. Decide when you would like to do them. And phone our Box Office or go online to book. Studio 1 Age: 8–12 (morning) & 13–18 (afternoon) Places: 30 Bollywood Vibes is a professional dance company, consisting of dancers from diverse backgrounds. Workshops will include a mix of Bollywood (cheesy, fun, high energy dance), Classical Indian and Bhangra which is fast, loud and energetic, a village dance traditionally done by boys. bollywoodvibes.co.uk

Street Arts Academy at Watermans 12 –16 Aug led by Emergency Exit Arts

Gallery Age: 13–16 / Places: 15 Street Arts sets the audience and performer free from the constraints of formal or paid for arts, leaving space for invention, improvisation and interaction. Working with three professional Street Arts practitioners, participants will explore outdoor performance techniques including ensemble, physical theatre, choreography, live improvisation, clowning and audience manipulation techniques. Participants will contribute to a performance of Spin Cycle, a new outdoor art piece, contributing ideas that make it relevant and incorporating their own skills into the performance ensemble. eea.org.uk

The workshops will be weekly and will run from 10am – 4.30pm* each day from Monday–Friday. At the end of each week there will be a showcase where all the work that has been created by everyone will be performed or displayed for friends, parents and supporters to enjoy. There will be a free film-screening for ages 12+ at the end of each day in the Cinema (except on the final day).

We shall also be keeping a photographic record of the Urban Ambush as it happens to feature in an exhibition of work at Watermans later in the year which will be open to participants, supporters and sponsors and funders as well as members of the public.

Bus: 65, 237, 267 stop outside. Train: Overground from Hounslow or Chiswick to Kew Bridge and seven-minute walk. Car: On-site car park (1st hour free). Blue Badge holders park for free. Cycle: Secure bicycle park.
