ANDERSON COOPER
A
NDERSON COOPER MADE HEADLINES THIS SUMMER WHEN HE FINALLY ANNOUNCED THAT HE IS GAY. But the anchor of Anderson Cooper 360° on CNN typically stays out of the headlines. Instead, he has made a career out of going behind the headlines to share the personal stories of the people behind the events covered by news networks. Since the launch of his show in 2003, Cooper has covered nearly all major news events around the world, including Hurricane Katrina, the Japan earthquake and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition to reporting for CNN, Cooper launched a new talk show last September and co-hosts New Year›s Eve events with gal pal and LGBT advocate Kathy Griffin. He also provides reports for CBS’s 60 Minutes. Dispatches from the Edge, Cooper’s memoirs about covering the South Asia tsunami, Hurricane Katrina and other news events, recently topped The New York Times Bestsellers List and other bestseller charts. His live performance will no doubt shine a personal light on his experiences with the news stories he covers and the reason why he chose this summer to finally come out of the closet. INCE WINNING SEASON 4 OF AMERICAN IDOL, CARRIE UNDERWOOD HAS PROVED UNSTOPPABLE. Now, the newly married country darling is on the road again with her “The Blown Away Tour,” which coincides with her new album. She’s traveling to the United Kingdom, across America and right here in Orlando. Underwood gained more LGBT fans this summer when she told a reporter that she believed anyone who loves another person should be able to marry. In effect, she said she supported same-sex marriage. Not everyone has been so supportive following that announcement, but Underwood continues to crank out the hits. “I can’t wait to get back out on the road and perform new music from my new album for my fans,” says Carrie. “We have a lot of exciting things planned!” Carrie is donating $1 from each ticket sold on the North American leg of “The Blown Away Tour” to support Red Cross disaster relief. Since releasing Some Hearts in 2005, Underwood has sold more than 14 million albums. She’s amassed 14 No. 1 singles, six of which she co-wrote, and became the first country artist in history and the only American Idol winner ever to achieve 10 No. 1 singles from her first two albums. JEKYLL AND HYDE
R
&B SUPERSTAR AND ST. PETE PRIDE 2012 HEADLINER DEBORAH COX joins with American Idol finalist Constantine Maroulis to inject new life in the touring production of Jekyll & Hyde. After a four year run on Broadway and multiple world-wide tours, the dark love story from Tony and Grammy Award nominee Frank Wildhorn and Oscar and Grammy Winner Leslie Bricusse continues with the classic songs “This is the Moment and “Someone Like You.” “I’ve been craving a meaty role with meaty songs,” says Cox, who played the title character in Broadway’s AIDA in 2004. “When I read the script and saw them breathing new life into it, I really got excited because I can play around with the role of Lucy and do my own things, make my own mark with the songs and with the role.” While the songs and the story will be very familiar, it has a more updated feel to it for the touring production, she told Watermark last summer. “This is going to be a little bit more contemporary than the original but it’s about finding that common, delicate balance,” Cox says. CLAY AIKEN
N THE FAST-PACED WORLD OF HERE AND GONE CELEBRITIES WHO ARE FAMOUS FOR BEING FAMOUS, it‘s rare to find a household name with iconic status based on actual talent. Yet, nearly 10 years after he penetrated the national consciousness, Clay Aiken is associated with more than just singing, acting and philanthropy. It’s hard to know which path to take when describing this success. His versatile reach as a performer spans recording and television studios, the concert stage, the Broadway stage and the world stage. Now, after a stint on Celebrity Apprentice, Aiken is back on tour and will stop in Clearwater’s Capitol Theater, run by Ruth Eckerd Hall, for an intimate concert of some of his biggest hits and a few new songs. Aiken’s legions of fans have always been mesmerized by his vocal range, but when he came out and then had a child, the devoted fans became even more so. Since his coming out, he has appeared on national news programs to discuss LGBT rights, all while performing at sold out venues across the nation. Most recently he toured with Ruben Studdard, who was Aiken’s rival in the second season of American Idol. NOV. 25, CAPITOL THEATER
