upcoming series :: Present Tense :: begins December 5th

We’re a community who believes that the best way to celebrate the birth of a King who embodied love and kindness is to allow that same beautiful justice and mercy to be born in us in the present. At the very core of all the celebration, shopping, decorating, and traditions of Christmas is an ancient echo beckoning each of us to embrace humility and bring joy. The shopping malls are swallowing our souls; take some time out this December to reignite your heart with a meaningful and soul-deepening celebration of the core of Christmas.

Water for Christmas :: returning this holiday season

Stores are already putting up Christmas decorations, Starbucks is switching to red cups, and before long the holiday shopping craze will be back again. It’s easy to get caught up in the part of the holidays that appeals to our desire to have the latest gadgets and fashions, but what if we reinvented our holiday traditions and adopted a new element of giving that helped to radically transform communities in need? Look for more details in the coming days on how your family can help give the gift of clean water where it’s needed the most.

next Baptism :: December 12th

Baptism is an ancient ritual of identifying yourself with Jesus Christ by symbolically re-enacting what Jesus has done for us. Baptism isn’t about committing to live life perfectly, but rather about being so thankful for Jesus that you are willing to be known as someone committed to following him. Come join us December 12th to celebrate as members of our community take part in this ancient practice of affirming their new life with Christ. If you are interested in being baptized, contact us at info@watershedcharlotte.com.

Current Justice Opportunities:: The Catapult Project :: investing in Byers Elementary

The Catapult Project is our program that is investing in Byers Elementary school. Last year was an exciting time of getting to know the school and students, and figuring out how best to help out and support the parents, students, and teachers; this year we’ve been able to build on our success and help the school even more. There are still plenty of opportunities for you to jump in! Circle the icons on your connection card if you’d like to sign up, or contact Scott Miller to see if there are more ways that you can help.

The Christmas Village Toy Store

The Christmas Village Toy Store is a program that allows families with limited resources to purchase toys for their kids at a reduced cost, while funneling the proceeds back into the community. This year, we’ve set a goal of providing 200 toys that can be sold in the store - if you would like to help, bring a new, unwrapped toy (leave the price tags on) to Transit on December 12th or sign up to help by circling the icon on your Connection Card. If you bring your Christmas Village postcard (the one in your Weekly today) to Target and present it at checkout when buying gifts for the store, they’ll give you a 10% discount as well (but only at the uptown, Pineville, Blakeny, and Rock Hill Target stores)! Visit www.christmasvillagetoystore.com for more info.

Water for Christmas

Water for Christmas is a program that helps people to direct their holiday resources in a rewarding fashion. Rather than spending all of the gift budget on things that friends and family may not need, Water for Christmas allows people to direct those funds toward clean-water projects in other areas of the world. Look for more info in the coming days, or get a jump on things by visiting www.equitas.cc/christmas to sign your family up for the program and start contributing. Start a group for your family, or join the Watershed group and help us work together to bring clean water to those in need overseas.
