Current Justice Opportunities:: Current Series :: Self-Sabotage and the Avoidance Thereof
News ::
3.13.11
Do you ever feel like the direction of your life is a moving target? Many of our “issues” sometimes seem to resurface even after we thought that they had been dealt with. Our habits, tendencies and inclinations can often be painfully cyclical - we sometimes find ourselves in the same boat over and over again - and at times it can get just plain frustrating, but the cycle doesn’t have to continue. Let’s head into Spring with some solid introspection, and start zeroing in on the facets of our focus that have the potential to undermine the identity God longs for us to have in relationship with Him.
Connection Card :: your key to community
Whether this is your first Transit or your fiftieth, we’re glad you joined us this morning. Transit is only a small part of what makes up Watershed - we have Blocs that meet during the week, justice opportunities, and lots of other fun and exciting ways to get involved. If you would like to connect more deeply with our community, fill out the Connection Card and circle any Blocs or volunteer opportunities you might be interested in. We’d love the chance to get to know you and help you find the best place to get plugged in.
The Orange Room :: for moms and young ones
These days it seems as if there are kids everywhere, and we’re excited to have so many new young ones on the scene! If it is necessary for your child to remain with you in Transit, consider taking advantage of The Orange Room should your child become restless or noisy. The Orange Room (located near the entrance to Greenhouse in the lobby) is equipped with comfortable seating, a speaker so that you can still listen to Transit, and privacy to allow you to manage the needs of your little one free of distractions or limitations.
Ten Minute Huddle :: right after Transit
If you have a question, would like to speak to someone personally, or would like to have someone pray with you, consider attending the “Ten Minute Huddle” at the close of Transit this morning. It’s hosted by our Watershed leadership community and is located the side of the stage in front of the screen. It would be our privilege to speak with with you and lift up your concern in prayer.
GreenHouse :: volunteer opportunities
While Transit is going on at Center Stage on Sunday mornings, our kids are having an incredible experience just on the other side of the wall. We believe that our kids are our greatest resource and investment in our future, so we want the Sunday AM experience to be great for them as well. If you’ve been looking for a fun way to serve and connect with people that can also make a huge impact in a child’s life, contact Kayla George (kayla@watershedcharlotte.com) or circle the GreenHouse icon on your connection card.
Blocs :: micro-communities that meet during the week Our community is made up of smaller groups (called “Blocs”) that meet at various times/locations during the week. Some Blocs meet periodically; others meet regularly and require a small commitment. All current Blocs are listed on the back of the Weekly - if you see one that sparks your interest, contact one of the Bloc Leaders (see back for contact info), or circle the icon on your connection card and one of the leaders will contact you to give you more details and let you know how you can jump in.
Watershed Podcast :: keep up with the discussion
Visit the “Podcast” page on our site or search “Watershed” in the iTunes store to download our Podcast. It’s a great way to keep up with the discussion by catching up on weeks you may have missed, or by revisiting a talk that resonated with you. iTunes users can “subscribe” to our podcast to download automatically; Windows Media users can download the files straight from our website in mp3 format.

During the most bitter months of winter Watershed helps to run Room at the Inn, an interfaith network of winter shelters for our homeless neighbors in Charlotte. Room In The Inn provides some of our neighbors with a warm place to rest for the night, a meal, and some friendly faces. Volunteer opportunities are available for everything from preparing meals and cleaning up to driving neighbors to/from the site and staying overnight.
Street Soccer 945
Street Soccer 945 is the first year-round soccer program for those struggling with homelessness and poverty in the United States. It uses healthy living, support from a community of teammates, and mentoring relationships as key ingredients to achieving life goals and overall well-being. Soccer has proven to be a remarkable tool for delivering these elements to people caught in the trap of homelessness. For more information on how to get involved. visit www.streetsoccer945.org or email Jonathan George at jgeorge@urbanministrycenter.org
Hope Teams
Hope Teams, a partnership with the W.I.S.H Program, are groups of 4-6 people within Watershed who provide mentoring friendships to a family in transition. A Hope Team provides relationships, encouragement and emotional support to families transitioning out of homelessness and moving into a more selfsufficient life. Hope Teams require a short training and a 1-year commitment from each team member. For information on initial Hope Team training dates or to learn more about the program, circle the icvon on your connection card or email Jamie McCollum at jamiemccollum@gmail.com

Through Girls On The Run, young women from Byers train for a non-competitive 5k at the end of the semester. Watershed helps with the race at the end of the Spring semester by providing volunteers to help staff the event, and “running buddies” who run with the girls and encourage them throughout the race.
