Current Series :: Self-Sabotage and the Avoidance Thereof
4.17.11
Do you ever feel like the direction of your life is a moving target? Many of our “issues” sometimes seem to resurface even after we thought that they had been dealt with. Our habits, tendencies and inclinations can often be painfully cyclical - we sometimes find ourselves in the same boat over and over again - and at times it can get just plain frustrating, but the cycle doesn’t have to continue. Let’s head into Spring with some solid introspection, and start zeroing in on the facets of our focus that have the potential to undermine the identity God longs for us to have in relationship with Him.
News ::
Communion :: this morning in Transit
Although we celebrate communion throughout the year, one of our traditions (although we’re only a 5 year old church) is commemorating Palm Sunday with a mini-feast meets communion of sorts...a table welcoming everyone who steps in the door. We’ll engage in remembrances of the table where Jesus sat with his disciples a few thousand years ago, surrounded by candlelit moments of contemplation and space to commune not only with God but each other as diverse community.
Easter Sunday :: next weekend
Join us next Sunday (April 24th) for our Easter celebration in a casual, kid-friendly, welcoming, 1-hour environment with plenty of carbs and caffeine. Suits, ties and patent leather not required (although of course as always, you are welcome regardless of how you are dressed) You’ll find no pageantry here, but rather the usual blend of live music, friendly people, and thought-provoking discussion that you’re accustomed to. Join us as we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection and the new life it brings to our community.
Ten Minute Huddle :: right after Transit
If you have a question, would like to speak to someone personally, or would like to have someone pray with you, consider attending the “Ten Minute Huddle” at the close of Transit this morning. It’s hosted by our Watershed leadership community and is located to the left side of the stage just in front of the screen. It would be our privilege to speak with with you and lift up your concern in prayer.
GreenHouse :: volunteer opportunities
While Transit is going on at Center Stage on Sunday mornings, our kids are having an incredible experience in GreenHouse. We believe that our kids are our greatest resource and biggest investment in our future. GreenHouse is in need of a few more all-star volunteers to help fill out our team and support our kids. If you’ve been looking for a fun way to serve that can also make a huge impact in a child’s life, contact Kayla George (kayla@watershedcharlotte.com) or circle the GreenHouse icon on your connection card.
West Virginia trip :: August 3rd-7th
Watershed will be returning to West Virginia this Summer! From August 3rd-7th, Watershed will again be partnering with Habitat for Humanity in Parkersburg, WV to repair a home for a family in need. The group will work on the house during the day, and at night we’ll camp out at Mountainwood park to play games and enjoy dinner by the campfire. The cost of the trip will be $165 - if you’re interested in learning more or joining this year’s trip, contact Dan Bailey at jdbailey704@gmail.com, or circle the icon on the connection card.
Movies In The Park :: returning May 13th
Summer is still a few months away, but Movies In The Park returns next month! It’s the summer’s best (and cheapest!) way to enjoy a movie under the stars with friends and family. All movies will take place at the Freedom Park amphitheater on the second Friday night of the month from May - August. Visit our website for movie titles and more info, and make plans to join us on May 13th to kick off the Summer series. Interested in volunteering? Email matt@watershedcharlotte.com - we’d love to have you as part of the team!
Street Soccer 945 is the first year-round soccer program for those struggling with homelessness and poverty in the United States. It uses healthy living, support from a community of teammates, and mentoring relationships as key ingredients to achieving life goals and overall well-being. Soccer has proven to be a remarkable tool for delivering these elements to people caught in the trap of homelessness. For more information on how to get involved. visit www.streetsoccer945.org or email Jonathan George at jgeorge@urbanministrycenter.org
Hope Teams
Hope Teams, a partnership with the W.I.S.H Program, are groups of 4-6 people within Watershed who provide mentoring friendships to a family in transition. A Hope Team provides relationships, encouragement and emotional support to families transitioning out of homelessness and moving into a more selfsufficient life. Hope Teams require a short training and a 1-year commitment from each team member. For information on initial Hope Team training dates or to learn more about the program, circle the icvon on your connection card or email Jamie McCollum at jamiemccollum@gmail.com
