Whether you’re a kindle-user or one whose reading is limited to the menu at restaurants, everyone loves a CliffsNotes version of transformational books. We invite you to spend the remainder of your summer Sunday mornings, coffee in hand, exploring some great books that we deem invaluable & universally thought-provoking. Stimulate your mind and nourish your heart as we discuss books by authors Brian Mclaren, Tim Keller, Michael Frost, Alan Hirsch, Erwin McManus & Shane Hipps.

News:: This Week’s Book :: A New Kind of Christianity by Brian McLaren
This week’s book is A New Kind of Christianity: Ten Questions That Are Transforming The Faith. In this book, McLaren examines questions about what exactly the “good news” is that the gospel proclaims, how to articulate the faith itself, how we understand the church and all its varieties, and perhaps the most intimidating question of all: where do we go from here?
NOTES
Playlist :: returning next month
The annual Playlist series returns this Fall! We had a lot of fun doing songs suggested by the community last year, so we want to do it again: send us some of your favorite songs - pick a few faves, and let us know what impacted you, or why it resonated with you. Write them on your Connection Card during Transit, and then drop it in the box on your way out. We’ll take some of the favorites that are submitted and throw them into the mix for the series. You can also email your ideas to info@watershedcharlotte.com (put “Playlist 2010” in the subject line)
The Orange Room :: for moms and young ones
These days it seems as if there are kids everywhere, and we’re excited to have so many new young ones on the scene! If it is necessary for your child to remain with you in Transit, consider taking advantage of The Orange Room should your child become restless or noisy. The Orange Room (located near the entrance to Greenhouse in the lobby) is equipped with comfortable seating, a speaker so that you can still listen to Transit, and privacy to allow you to manage the needs of your little one free of distractions or limitations.

PG :: new parenting Bloc launches this Fall!
Parenting is a crazy dichotomy where some seasons seem to crawl and others are gone in an instant. One minute you’re playing Candy Land; the next minute you’re giving her away on her wedding day - it’s an emotionally charged roller-coaster, but you don’t have to travel through it alone. If you would like to benefit from and add value to this Bloc experience contact the leaders to reserve your spot! Circle the icon on your connection card, or contact Matt or Jennifer (see back for contact info)
Her:Gather :: August 25th at The Wine Loft
Her:Gather is the Bloc for Watershed ladies can get together to talk, laugh and enjoy life. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, August 25th at the Wine Loft on South Blvd. We’ll be getting there at 6:30pm to relax after the work day, enjoy some drinks and dinner and unwind with some friends. Contact Rachael or Ashley if you’d like to join us - we’d love to have you! When: Wednesday, August 25th at 6:30pm Where: The Wine Loft - 2201 South Blvd

Girls On The Run :: 2010
Last year, Watershed launched a new Girls On The Run program at Byers Elementary as part of the Catapult Project. Girls On The Run is a character development program for girls in grade 3-8 that uses running to teach values and a sense of self - the program combines training for a non-competitive 5k with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts and community service. Volunteer spots are open to help meet with and run with the girls after school on Mondays and Wednesdays at Byers from 1:45-3:15 - for more information or to volunteer, contact Rachael Shaughnessy (krehfish79@aol.com / 434.851.9640) or circle the icon on your connection card.
GreenHouse ::
We believe that our children are our biggest investment, and our best hope for the future, and so we dedicate much of our time and energy to providing an environment where kids can grow, play, make new friends and develop a spritual foundation for their lives. Our Greenhouse space is just on the other side of the wall, and provides kids with a safe, fun place to spend their morning. To learn more about Greenhouse or to learn how you can get involved, contact Laura Barker (laura@WatershedCharlotte.com)

Watershed is built around two things - relationships and serving - so check out some of the opportunities listed in the Weekly and see if there’s anything that catches your interest. If you want to get involved, but aren’t sure where you fit, fill out your Connection Card and drop it in one of the metal boxes on your way out - we’d love to talk to you and help you get plugged in.

Blocs :: micro-communities that meet during the week
Our community is made up of smaller groups (called “Blocs”) that meet at various times/locations during the week. Many of our Blocs have slowed down for the Summer months, but as Fall approaches we are ramping back up and will also add some new groups into the mix. Blocs with blue icons are open to everyone and are built around social activities; Blocs with the red icons are limited in size, usually meet for a set period of time and require a small level of commitment. If you see a Bloc that sparks your interest, contact one of the Bloc Leaders (see back for times, short descriptions, and contact info) or circle the icon on your connection card and one of the leaders will contact you.
Watershed Cafe :: an easy way to jump in
Are you one of those people who likes meeting new friends and making people feel welcome? Have you been looking for a easy way to get involved in our community? If so, you might be a great fit for the Watershed Cafe! The Cafe team is an integral part of the Sunday morning Transit experience. The team meets on Sunday mornings before Transit starts and helps set up the coffee, snacks and signage in the lobby. Volunteers serve roughly once a month - if you’d like to find out how you can help, contact Matt O’Neil (matt@watershedcharlotte.com)
