Whether you’re a kindle-user or one whose reading is limited to the menu at restaurants, everyone loves a CliffsNotes version of transformational books. We invite you to spend the remainder of your summer Sunday mornings, coffee in hand, exploring some great books that we deem invaluable & universally thought-provoking. Stimulate your mind and nourish your heart as we discuss books by authors Brian Mclaren, Tim Keller, Michael Frost, Alan Hirsch, Erwin McManus & Shane Hipps.

News:: This Week’s Book :: ReJesus by Michael Frost and Alan Hirsch

This week’s book is ReJesus: A Wild Messiah for a Missional Church. As many attempt to address Christianity’s endemic and long trended decline in the West, ReJesus invites us to pare back layers of tradition, recognize distortion and misrepresentation, read the Gospels afresh, and learn to reinstate Jesus at the center of the spiritual life and mission of God’s people.

NOTES

Playlist :: returning in a few weeks!

We had a lot of fun doing songs suggested by the community last year, so we want to do it again: send us some of your favorite songs - let us know what impacted you about it, or why it resonated with you. Write them on your Connection Card, or email your ideas to info@watershedcharlotte.com (put “Playlist 2010” in the subject line)

Blocs::

In celebration of our 5 year anniversary, we want to celebrate what God has done in your life since you have become part of our Watershed community. What have you learned? What is God teaching you? What would you like to say to people about our community? Do you have a funny story? Use your video camera or mobile phone to record a video and send it to us! We will piecing together your stories to create a sort of “digital patchwork” of personal experiences here at Watershed. Videos must be submitted by Sept 12 at the latest. (please use the maximum quality setting so that it will be usable on our big screens for our Sept. 28th Transit!) Questions? Contact Taryn Hofert (taryn@watershedcharlotte.com) to get more info. Urban Ministry Center :: Operation Sandwich

The Urban Ministry Center recently had part of the roof collapse during a rain storm, and due to the damage they have been unable to provide for our neighbors as they once were. The community has rallied around them with Operation Sandwich, a program that provides the Urban Ministry Center with food to share with the neighbors. We’ll have opportunities to help out tomorrow, Aug. 30th from 10:3011:15am making drinks, and on Wednesday Sept. 1st from 9:15-10:15am making 300 sandwiches for our friends. If you’d like to help but the times don’t work, there are also opportunities to bring bread, ham, cheese or mayonnaise to help make sandwiches. Circle the icon on your connection card (also circle the date you want to help), or email Scott Miller (scottm@watershedcharlotte.com) for more info.

GreenHouse ::

We believe that our children are our biggest investment, and our best hope for the future, and so we dedicate much of our time and energy to providing an environment where kids can grow, play, make new friends and develop a spritual foundation for their lives. Our Greenhouse space is just on the other side of the wall, and provides kids with a safe, fun place to spend their morning. To learn more about Greenhouse or to learn how you can get involved, contact Laura Barker (laura@WatershedCharlotte.com)

Blocs :: micro-communities that meet during the week

Our community is made up of smaller groups (called “Blocs”) that meet at various times/locations during the week. Many of our Blocs have slowed down for the Summer months, but as Fall approaches we are ramping back up and will also add some new groups into the mix. Blocs with blue icons are open to everyone and are built around social activities; Blocs with the red icons are limited in size, usually meet for a set period of time and require a small level of commitment. If you see a Bloc that sparks your interest, contact one of the Bloc Leaders (see back for times, short descriptions, and contact info) or circle the icon on your connection card and one of the leaders will contact you.

Watershed Cafe :: an easy way to jump in

Are you one of those people who likes meeting new friends and making people feel welcome? Have you been looking for a easy way to get involved in our community? If so, you might be a great fit for the Watershed Cafe! The Cafe team is an integral part of the Sunday morning Transit experience. The team meets on Sunday mornings before Transit starts and helps set up the coffee, snacks and signage in the lobby. Volunteers serve roughly once a month - if you’d like to find out how you can help, contact Matt O’Neil (matt@watershedcharlotte.com)
