This week’s book is The Future of Faith by author Harvey Cox. In this book, legendary Harvard religion scholar Harvey Cox offers up a new interpretation of both the history and future of religion. Cox identifies three fundamental shifts over the last 2,000 years of church history, and personalizes the material in a compelling, practical ways. The Future of Faith is a major statement by one of the most revered theologians today.

Movies In The Park :: Monsters Vs Aliens :: this Friday
The Summer seems as if it’s only just begun, but we’re almost ready to wrap up this year’s Movies In The Park. We’ll be continuing the fun next month on August 13th with Monsters Vs Aliens. If you’ve been waiting to make one of the movies this Summer, next month will be your last chance - bring your friends, your neighbors, your kids, your dog, or come by yourself and make some new friends!

Fantasy Football :: returning this Fall
The Watershed Fantasy Football League returns this Fall! It’s free, fun, competitive-but-friendly, and is open to any and all Watershedders. Joining a league is free, but sign up early to make sure you can get a space - the teams fill up quickly! The draft will be an auto-draft to help “level the playing field” and will take place near the end of August (so be sure to sign up by August 15th!) The season begins September 10th, and will include periodic get-togethers to watch games and cheer on your players.
Her:Grow :: resumes in the Fall
The Her:Grow Bloc will be resuming this September! We will be meeting uptown on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:30. We’ll have our first meeting September 14th, and the Bloc will run through the end of November. The centerpiece of our discussion will be the book Captivating by Stasi and John Eldridge. Spaces usually fill up quickly, so contact one of the Bloc leaders soon if you’d like to join us!

The Catapult Project :: service opportunity :: Staff Appreciation
On August 24th, we will be providing breakfast for the teachers and staff at Walter G Byers as part of The Catapult Project. There are opportunities available both for bringing food, and for helping to setup and serve food to the staff. (you can pick one or the other, and of course you can do both if you want!) Girls On The Run :: 2010
Last year, Watershed launched a new Girls On The Run program at Byers Elementary as part of the Catapult Project. Girls On The Run is a character development program for girls in grade 3-8 that uses running to teach values and a sense of self - the program combines training for a non-competitive 5k with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts and community service. Volunteer spots are open to help meet with and run with the girls after school on Mondays and Wednesdays at Byers from 1:45-3:15 - for more information or to volunteer, contact Rachael Shaughnessy (krehfish79@aol.com / 434.851.9640) or circle the icon on your connection card.

We believe that our children are our biggest investment, and our best hope for the future, and so we dedicate much of our time and energy to providing an environment where kids can grow, play, make new friends and develop a spritual foundation for their lives. Our Greenhouse space is just on the other side of the wall, and provides kids with a safe, fun place to spend their morning. Immerse :: a spiritual exploration
Immerse is an 8-week exploration of life, faith and Christian spirituality designed to engage people across a diverse spectrum of backgrounds, experiences and beliefs. Engaging conversation, thought-provoking discussions and relational connectivity is what you can expect to experience in Immerse. There are several Immerse Blocs that meet at a variety of times, days and locations, so contact Matt O’Neil or Andrew Lombardo to find out what opportunities are available and to see which one works best for you (see back for contact info)
Blocs :: making connections during the week
Our community is made up of smaller groups (called “Blocs” that meet at various times/locations during the week. Blocs with the blue icons are open to everyone and are built around various social activities; Blocs with the red icons are limited in size, usually meet for a set period of time and require a small level of commitment. If you’re looking to have fun and get to know some new friends, check out the Blocs with blue icons, and if you’re looking for a smaller gathering where you can connect on a deeper level, check out the ones with red icons.
