TERROIR is the set of all environmental factors that affect a crop’s phenotype, including unique environment contexts, farming practices and a crop’s specific growth habitat.

Located in Southbourne, Bournemouth, Terroir is a tapas bar with a twist. Their ethos of being kind to the planet is one that we should all be aiming to follow.

They focus on reducing the waste they create, chemicals and unnecessary carbon trails, in aid of protecting the planet. Shockingly food waste is still costing the hospitality sector £357 million, according to the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP). This waste has usually got one destination: the landfill.

Terroir are working hard to ensure that they create zero waste. Even on the website Terroir are transparent with how many miles the food has travelled to get to your plate. They are eco-friendly even down to the final details: they grow their own herbs on site with hydroponic and aquaponic systems, and even the salt and spices are sourced from the UK when possible.

When it comes to design, Terroir has encapsulated sleek, minimalistic and environmentally friendly in one. Not only is the atmosphere trendy and exciting, but the tables are also made out of compressed yoghurt pots. Ideal for the environmentally conscious.

They really have thought outside of the box, and they truly use every scrap ingredient in the making of the place. The bar is made out of reused coffee cup lids and plastic chopping boards. Rather than contributing to making more waste, Terroir uses washable napkins and hand towels as opposed to disposable.

The Stay Connected team enjoyed a lovely evening at Terroir, pre lockdown. Drinking sweetcorn martinis and soaking up the incredible atmosphere, we had a great time and would thoroughly recommend the tapas bar.

Fantastic and inspiring staff with presentation and taste experience to challenge any restaurant.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel and the end of lockdown is in sight now. Why not book in advance and eat out locally to support small businesses. It makes the world of difference when you chose a local business.
