Background skills - Terry’s background is in local government and the NHS where he held managerial roles. His skills are project management, research, diplomacy, forward looking leadership and partnership working. Terry also has a Diploma in Municipal Administration.

Background skills - Tina has 20 years’ experience of working in social housing, she is a qualified accountant (FCCA), Chief Executive of Watford Community Housing Trust and Chair of Watford CAB.

On retiring Terry joined a number of charities as a volunteer fundraiser raising substantial sums towards new projects and schemes.

Treasurer, Chair of the Resources Committee. John sits on the Succession Planning Group and gets involved with the Remuneration Committee when it meets.

Background skills - John’s background is in financial management and general corporate management of large international companies. John is a qualified ACA and has experience in tax work. John currently works only for charitable organisations having ‘retired’ early a few years ago. He spends a lot of his time working for the Methodist Church in numerous roles.

Government lawyer with 35 years’ experience of the charity world. Currently Chair of CLIC Sargent the Country’s largest children’s cancer charity and a volunteer with Age UK. Previously Daphne was National Chairman of the Samaritans and has been at various times both the Director and Chairman of the Watford branch of the Samaritans. She was a Samaritan for 32 years. Daphne is an accomplished speaker and trainer on various Third Sector topics and has extensive media experience in her charitable roles. Daphne was awarded an OBE in 2012 for her services to the charitable sector.

Background skills - Matt was a Trustee for

the YMCA for 4 years prior to taking a rolle on the staff team. He really enjoys working with the residents of the YMCA hostel and being part of such a vibrant organisation, helping so many different people. Matt likes to make new connections, enabling projects to get started and involving the local churches in the life of the Y.

Chief Executive

Background skills - Guy’s background is in Youth and Community work, his previous role was working at the UK’s largest youth centre, in South London. Prior to that he oversaw youth and children’s work at a variety of churches across the country and ran a charity delivering community programmes across the Welsh Valleys. Guy has a degree in Youth and Community work from King’s College, London, but before that he pursued an interest in ancient history and literature gaining a masters degree in Anglosaxon, Norse and Celtic.

Background skills - Christine spent 4 years as a teacher followed by 22 years in local government, the last 7 years as Executive Director Leisure and Community Services. Currently Christine is working for the University of Hertfordshire as Director of the Herts Sports and Physical Activity Partnership.

Director of Corporate Resources, responsible for finance, property, HR and ICT.

Background skills - David has worked for Watford YMCA since February 2012 having also worked for another Hertfordshire YMCA. Prior to this, David was Head of Resources for a local authority leading on corporate resources such as property, procurement, HR and ICT as well as the management of Council Tax, Business Rates and Benefits. Outside of work, David is a trustee of a London based youth charity. He has also provided leadership and support to a number of national and international projects and programmes for a national youth organisation.

Background skills - Phil’s background skills include administration, voluntary work, fundraising, Health and Safety at Work, management experience, networking and marketing.

Background skills - A qualified Physical Education and Geography teacher with many years’ experience in Youth and Community work. As a Director at Central YMCA Barry was at the forefront of improving the quality of teacher education in the Health and Fitness Industry.

Phil holds a teaching Qualification from the University of Cambridge (English for Speakers of Other Languages).

Barry is the author of the current Health and Fitness Industry quality standard kite mark (Fitness Industry Association Code of Practice).

Phil has an interest in fitness.

His time as CEO of Jubilee Hall Trust has given him an in depth understanding of the charitable environment in which YMCA Watford operates.
