SS2019 FABRIC DEVELOPMENT

RAINBOW COLOUR INTERTEXTILE REPORT


Rainbow colours are key for the new season, and present in a rnage of fabrications as well as trims and prints. Trans furs and wools feature bright patchworked colour or contrast weft yarns, for a fun eclectic feel. Foil and metallic prints and finishes are given the colour treatment, while zips feature ombre teeth or tapes. Slogans tapes and zip pulls also appear with multicolour lettering.

BRONZE TOBACCO INTERTEXTILE REPORT


The rise of metallics moves to a bronze finish for SS19; colours range from rusty orangey coppers to richer red tones. The level of shine also varies from super high shine to a matt metallic effect. Non metallic tobacco tones also feature heavily across performance and more casual fabrications. Zip and metalwork finishes show a juxtapotion of super shiny bronze with more worn down antique effects.

CAMOFLAGE INTERTEXTILE REPORT


Camo patterns still feature heavily in SS19 for boys and girls. Wools and furs feature camo patterns for trans, and as we move through the season to lighterweight fabrics we see more botanical designs with textural inclusions or brushstoke effects. Characters or icons are hidden within prints, and floral camos are a key theme across the genders. Zip tapes, badges and tapes all feature camo patterns.

CHECKS INTERTEXTILE REPORT


Checks feature heavily across the catwalks for SS19, and this was represented in kind in terms of fabrics. Plaids and heritage style checks cover the trans months, while gingham begins to emerge later in the season. Clean contrast lines update classic weaves, as well as new qualities and textures. Ribstop patterns are also key for tech fabrics, with dobby weaves being popular.

DISTRESSED INTERTEXTILE REPORT


Distrssed look fabrics featured heavily in AW18/19, and the trend continues into the new season. Distressed textures become more linear and almost form stipes or contours and often have 3D texture. Colours are lighter for the spring season and often feature bluey tones. Trims are also given this treatment, presenting in grindle effect tapes and bindings and mock horn and chalk effect buttons.

EMBOSSED PRINT INTERTEXTILE REPORT


Tone on tone, embossed and wet look prints have been growing in popularity and were still heavily featured at Intertextile. Patterns covered off the key print themes; geos, camos, wording, and generic ideas. Base colours are often dark to allow the print to show up, but there has also been an increase in champagne tones for girl. Zip pulls, tapes and velcro badges feature embossed slogans.

COLOUR GLITCH INTERTEXTILE REPORT


The focus on activewear has caused an increase in glitch effect designs and prints. Geometirics and tie dye patterns are modernised with colour bleed and distorted features across a range of fabrications. Pinks, purples and blues are key colours, reminiscent of the underwater theme coming through for Spring. Accessories also feature this effect; mainly on zip tapes or pullers.

MESH TEXTURE INTERTEXTILE REPORT


Also taking inspiration from activewear; mesh effects and textures feature heavily this season. Mesh can be seen bonded to solid fabrics for a multilayered technical feel, and metallic inclusions add a luxe element. Prints are updated with mesh textures, and some fabrics include reflective dots for a cool tech look. Mesh tapes are also key, and slogans can appear pixelated.

REFLECTIVE INTERTEXTILE REPORT


Ref;ective trims and fabrications are key for fashion and tech styles this season. Reflective prints and pocket edgings are still hugely popular, and the show illustrated a rise in rainbow reflective finishes. These could be key for fun novelty styles for boys and girls this season.

OIL SLICK SHINE INTERTEXTILE REPORT


Oil slick and irridescent finishes are the new way to look at metallics. These can be created through coatings and prints, or woven into the fabrics themselves, with purples and dark blues being key colours. Some textures appear glitterised or holographic with tonal colour. Zip tapes and bindings also feature this effect, and can be used on basic styles to catch the eye.

STAR MOTIFS INTERTEXTILE REPORT


Star patterns grew in popularity last season and show no sign of going anywhere. Print designs can be seen across a range of techniques; foil prints, flocking, reflective and jacquard. Classic icons are updated with a linear look, distressing, or with slogan keylines. Badges, tapes and zips all include this key print.

STRIPES INTERTEXTILE REPORT


Stripes featured heavily in the catwalks and were well represented at intertextile. They appeared across all fabrications in a variety of ways; bold colours created a fun eclectic vibe, while other stripes were fragmented or overlayed with pattern for a more modern feel. Striped tapes are hugely popular, featured at the sides of garments for a retro sports aesthetic.

WET LOOK INTERTEXTILE REPORT


Wet look fabrics are resurging for the new season for a retro futuristic feeling. Black and dark colour bases are most popular, but intertextile featured some brights for the summer season too. For high summer look at translucent plastized fabrications for macs, and lighterweight polys for cagoules. Wet look prints and zips could also be seen across the show.

WORDS AND LETTERS INTERTEXTILE REPORT


Slogans have been growing in popularity over the past few seasons, which was well represented at Intertextile. Fabrics featured slogan or lettered prints. Words and letters were jumbled up for conversational designs, while linear effects look liked pinstripes. Slogan tapes and badges are updated with floral inclusions or rainbow lettering.

WRINKLED TEXTURE INTERTEXTILE REPORT


Fabrications appear creased and wrinkled, giving a worn and well loved vibe. As well as the classic lightweight nylons, this effect could also be seen on polyesters which could be used for lightweight cagoules. Creased textures could be seen on matt, natural looking fabrics to those with soft sheen or strong metallic finishes.

SOFT FEEL INTERTEXTILE REPORT


Peached and paper touch finishes were prevelant at the show and will be key for kidswear in the upcoming season. Basic fabric bases are heavily brushed or treated for a more tactile touch, perfect for both casual and smarter looks. Beach short fabrications were also given the soft feel treatment.
