Welcome About Watts Gallery - Artists’ Village ‘A memorable day out for Art History lovers young and old.’ TripAdvisor Review
Watts Gallery - Artists’ Village is more than just an art gallery. It offers a full day out of culture and creativity. Engage with the history and art of G F and Mary Watts at the newly-opened Watts Studios, and discover our permanent collection and temporary exhibitions in Watts Gallery. Enjoy a quiet moment at Watts Chapel or The Tea Shop, and explore the woodlands before browsing art for sale in Watts Contemporary Gallery. Learn new skills in a creative workshop or explore as a family with one of our free family trails.
A note from the Director Summer at Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village, thanks to the generosity of many donors, can now include the enjoyment of picnics in the Wilfrid Blunt woodland, walks along the Pilgrims Way and outdoor sketching. In addition, families can rediscover the magic of fairies in the Woodland Fairy Fair on 9-10 July and amble along Down Lane to the sound of the horse and cart during Heritage Open Days on 10-11 September. We are proudest of the new Watts Studios which, thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund, offers a fresh insight into the lives of G F and Mary Watts. As a centre for exploring Victorian art, social history, craft, design, photography and architecture, this summer programme provides it all.
Drawing on the rich photographic collections of The Rob Dickins Collection and the London Stereoscopic Company, reinterpreting the landscape through the exhibition by the Artist in Residence, Andrew Kearney, and enjoying linocuts in Watts Contemporary Gallery, we hope there is something for everyone. Please remember that a visit to the Artists’ Village is now a full day out. Give yourself time to enjoy the sunshine and the tea and cake, visit Watts Chapel, Watts Studios and the Gallery and participate in a workshop. We welcome families as there is so much for young people to enjoy, both outside and inside. We look forward to welcoming you. Perdita Hunt OBE
