The Art of Bedlam: Richard Dadd Watts Gallery This exhibition showcases the works of Richard Dadd, one of the most gifted artists of the Victorian period. Drawing together loans from public and private collections, these images allow an exploration of Dadd’s travels and imagination – from Eastern adventures to Shakespearean characters and fairytale figures. Notorious for killing his father, Dadd suffered from severe mental illness and spent much of his career in psychiatric hospitals, including Broadmoor and Bethlem. He continued to create beautiful and haunting masterpieces such as The Fairy Feller’s Master-Stroke, Contradiction: Oberon and Titania, and Bacchanalian Scene.
