EXCLUSIVITY

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT:

About What is The Branch?

Who is a good fit for The Branch?

The Branch is a ‘skills accelerator’ to be headquartered in the Information Technology Entrepreneurial Center (iTEC) at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau.

The Branch will be made up of student teams with a few key ‘personas’. Students that identify as one or more of the ‘personas’ listed below are a good fit for The Branch:

The Branch has been formed through a partnership between the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce, Northcentral Technical College and Church Mutual Insurance Company.

Hackers: Engineering, manufacturing, software development, computer science students

The first cohort will take place in the summer of 2016.

How does a ‘skills accelerator’ like The Branch work? A ‘skills accelerator’ gives high-potential college students the training, connections and experience needed to develop the skills necessary for the careers of tomorrow. The Branch will teach collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking through entrepreneurial projects.

Why should students and businesses participate? Students with a desire to build a startup or to someday innovate for a corporation will be drawn to The Branch. Participants will experience hands-on, real-world professional development and will learn how to collaborate, communicate, and think critically and creatively. The brightest minds from across the region will be involved, as students become deeply engaged with business innovation, gaining direct access to a large regional professional network.

Hipsters: Graphic and communication design, industrial design, UX/UI students Hustlers: Business development and strategy, marketing, sales students Handlers: Exceptional organization and communication skills to be project managers Students must attend Northcentral Technical College, Lakeland College, Mid-State Technical College, Nicolet Area Technical College, Rasmussen College, Upper Iowa University, UW-Marathon County or UW-Stevens Point.

What will students work on? The Branch will form multi-disciplinary teams of students and have them work on corporate innovation challenges. Students with startup ideas will also find an outlet for these ideas.

How can businesses get involved? The Branch is looking for additional sponsors, innovative projects and mentors. Business participation in The Branch is limited to members of the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce.

To become a sponsor of or to submit a project to The Branch, contact Brian Otten at botten@wausauchamber.com or visit TheBranchWI.com
