01 ADAPTABLE HOUSING SCHEME
A development in
Kikuyu Town(6th year thesis project)
Africa is growing at an unprecedented rate. According to research firm THE LANCET, sub Saharan Africa is expected to have a population of 1.72 billion people by 2050 in a population projection done in 2010 with majority of the population living in urban area. This is evident in Kenya with the biggest city Nairobi having a population of 4.735 million in 2020 obtained from the 2019 KENYA NATION CENSUS. This phenomenal has led to the city of Nairobi transforming into a metropolitan area with various towns in the city as Kikuyu.
The rapid urbanization of these Satellite towns has raised their status into self sustaining towns with amenities rivaling the main Nairobi city. Due to population increase and soaring land ,rent and amenity charges, Satellite towns in Nairobi have emerged as ‘Dormitory Centers’ to serve city residents. The Metropolitan towns are now characterized by the apartment block built forms .
PROBLEM STATEMENT
With Kikuyu Municipality having a population of 323,400 inhabitants as per the 2019 Kenya General census, the area has densified rapidly with low rise structures being brought down to favour high rise dwellings.Unit typologies on the other had have change over time from large 3 bedroom and 2 bedroom units built in the early 2000s to more space economical units currently.Family set ups have also changed over time with some families downscaling or some members working from home yet building designs do not recognize the shifting preferences and how to cope with it.
Brief UNIT DISTRIBUTION
The projects objective seeks to create a replicable housing model that can cope with the inhabitants everchanging lifestyles at the same time function coherently with other inhabitans and meet future spatial requirements . The project was set on a 4.5 acre property belonging to the Muguku Poultry Farm in Kikuyu Town, wih the aim of providing 290 units (90 dwellings per acre=medium density) that can adapt over time to meet the inhabitants needs.Commercial and recreation spaces were also to be provided to foster community living among inhabitants.

02 CHIMES RESTAURANT INTERIOR PROJECT
A development in ADD building Nairobi(4th year project)
The design project was located at level 0 of the ADD Buiilding at the University of Nairobi Main Campus with the aim of providi ng space for chimes restaurant that would serve the University Community at the premisis. The design concept was derived from a sailing ship creating an anal ogy of the university as a vessel leading us to the final destination which is knowledge gain.
Ceiling and wall planes are abstractions of a sailing ship,curved ceiling to represent sails complimented by timber patterns fo r ropes and net-like pendant lights.

A development in Juja Area
The design project is located in Juja area Kimabu , The brief included the provision of budget one bedroom apartments in a tigh t 12.1m by 17m plot of land, with parking facilites at ground level.Form araticulation was incorporated in the facade design through pattern,color and texture.

04 WATERPOINT GARDEN AND RESTAURANT
A development in Kitengela(Completed in October 15th 2022)
The design project is located in the outskirts of Kitengela town,adjacent to the Nairobi Namanga Highway. The brief included th e design of a 100 pax restaurant with a top deck and ground entertainment space.The client,Liqudium Enterprise limited prefered an open setup to allow guest to be one with the surrounding and at the same time be sheltered from the weather elements.The restaurant was to be constructed using old shipping containers the clinet had purchased ealier to use as storage facilities. Tasks included prepartion of all scheme and detail drawings,creation of the contruction work schedule and supervision of the va rious subcontractors on site.
