The Kids’ Guide to Birds © initiative blends outdoor discovery and rich classroom experiences aligned to state standards in science, math, writing, and the arts. The project boosts academic achievement and fosters a sense of stewardship over the environment upon which we all depend. The Kids’ Guide to Birds, Vol 1 is the first in a series. Produced by primary school students, the guide showcases their research, personal observations, art, and writing. This work is not meant to be an exhaustive guide to all the birds in a particular geographic area. Rather it is a compilation of those species which the participating students spotted or simply loved learning about. Kids, some as young as six, were the creators of The Kids’ Guide to Birds. But, don’t be fooled by the age of our contributing writers: some listed facts are on the cutting edge of scientific discovery!
