POLLY
From Page 1
As far as schooling, Lowe attended East Belmont Elementary and then went to Belmont High for a spell. Love entered her life at age 15 when she married Conley Stowe in 1936. They had a daughter named Sheila. Tragedy struck when Stowe was killed in action in France in January, 1945. Polly was 24 years old at the time and Sheila was just three.
By and by, things perked up for Polly and she married James Lowe on June 18, 1949. He operated the Belmont water plant. They has a son named Keith who was born in 1960.
Another January jolt for Polly came on January 13, 1985 when James passed away. In 2019 her son Keith and daughter Sheila both passed away.
Polly says her strong faith helped her persevere.
“Trust in the Lord,” she says.
These days, Polly lives with her daughter in law Toby Lowe in a nice home in the Timberlake community. She reflected on some of the positive aspects of a life that would have bowed a lesser being.
Polly also has several Yorkshire terriers. They worship the ground she walks on and as soon as she sits down they leap for attention.
Other things that have helped keep Polly in the game are the Young at Heart senior group at Park St. Methodist Church. Ironically, the church is on the very ground where Polly’s childhood school, East Belmont Elementary, once stood. Polly also enjoys reading her Bible and magazines. She also likes hearing about her three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Polly says eating right has helped her achieve her remarkable tally of years.
“I like oatmeal with nuts and dates,” she says.
Regarding a secret for longevity, Polly doesn’t have one per se, but offered this brief but eloquent suggestion.
To which daughter in law Toby adds- “She’s tough!”
