Gastonia names new Police Chief

City of Gastonia has named Interim Police Chief Trent Conard as the next permanent Police Chief for the Gastonia Police Department (GPD). He joined the GPD in 1996 and brings more than 28 years of experience to his new position. Conard was named Interim Police Chief in October 2022. Chief Conard will continue to lead the daily operations of the Police Department and the work of over 200 dedicated women and men who serve the community in sworn and civilian positions.

The city advertised the position nationwide and received over 40 applications. There were eight candidates interviewed and four selected to participate in an extensive assessment center conducted by Centralina Regional Council. The assessment panel consisted of police chiefs and city managers from around the Charlotte region, along with some Gastonia community leaders.

JAN. 22: A resident of Margrace Road reported damage to a tire valued at $130.

JAN. 23: City of Kings Mountain, 101 W. Gold Street, reported damage to fiber optic cable on highway, alley and McGinnis Street valued at $12,000.

JAN. 25: A resident of Charles Street reported break-in of a vehicle and theft of cash, a revolver, and miscellaneous items.

WRECKS

JAN. 17: Officer Matheson said Traveyana Alazah Saquoya Gemes, 114 Pearce Street, operating a 2003 Nissan, hydroplaned into a 2000 Toyota operated by Charles Brent Parker, 318 Brice Street. The accident happened as Parker was waiting to pull from the parking lot of Parker’s Amoco and Tires. Property damage was estimated at $4.300.
