The Woodstock music festival is one of the most prolific music festivals in the history of the United States

The event began on August 15th, 1969 and drew more than half a million people to the three day music festival
●
The concert was held at Howard Mills industrial Park in Wallkill, New York
●
The festival featured artists from Jimi Hendrix to Janis Joplin and marketed the festival as a symbol of peace and love
●
By the end of the festival, two fatalities were reported and two babies were born

Over half a million people attended woodstock in 1969 The festival became synonyms with the counterculture movement of the 60’s and drew large numbers of young people Many of the people who attended Woodstock were called “hippies” or “flower childs” who lived in a peaceful and non-violent way as part of the counterculture movement.

The Grateful Dead is a California based psychedelic rock band that first began performing in san Jose during the 1960’s The band quickly grew in popularity and performed at the 1969 woodstock The bands performance during the festival was very poor, due to substance induced hazes that left multiple band members immobilized and incoherent Even with a horrible performance at the 1969 Woodstock festival, The Grateful Dead went on to be one of the most influential psychedelic rock bands of all time

The article below writes about the crowd of hippies that attended Woodstock and has a few comments from attendees on how the event went. Since there was no social media platforms in the 1960’s, posters and newspaper articles were the main way to inform the public about the festival agenda as well as how the festival went.

The Woodstock festival proved that large, diverse groups of people could all be together freely and peacefully without any violence It was an important event to the Hippie Movement in the 1960’s whose goal was to spread peace and love and put an end to the violence mostly caused by the Vietnam War

They reminded our country to stay united and live in peace. -The festival was made up of many people who believed in peace among everyone, so therefore the tragedy of 9/11 was a reminder that we must support one another and advocate for peace and harmony.
