● Wayzata Public Schools serves all or part of Corcoran, Maple Grove, Medicine Lake, Medina, Minnetonka, Orono, Plymouth and Wayzata. ● The district includes seven elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), and one high school (9-12). ● The district’s community education department serves the learning needs of residents of all ages through a variety of programs and offerings. ● The projected enrollment for the 2014-15 school year is 10,800 students, which includes 4,867 elementary students, 2,591 middle school students and 3,342 high school students. ● The student body in our district, based on 2013-14 enrollment, includes the following: • White, not of Hispanic origin – 72 percent • Black, not of Hispanic origin – 8 percent • Asian or Pacific Islander – 16 percent • Hispanic – 4 percent • American Indian or Alaskan Native – 0.3 percent ● Other data on our students includes the following: • Percent of students receiving free/reduced lunch – 13 percent • Percent of students receiving special education services – 9.27 percent • Percent of English Language Learner students – 2 percent ● Wayzata Public Schools employs more than 1,500 employees including about 790 teaching positions. ● The district operates with a total expenditure budget for the 2014-15 school year of more than $165 million, which includes about $123 million for the general operations of the schools.

Academic Achievements

● Wayzata Public Schools is one of 367 districts in the nation, and one of 11 districts in Minnesota, honored by the College Board with a place on the second annual AP Honor Roll for simultaneously increasing access to Advanced Placement coursework while maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of three or higher on AP exams. ● As part of the Minnesota Department of Education Multiple Measurements Rating (MMR) system, Wayzata Public Schools had four identified “Reward” schools in 2014. Wayzata was one of only three districts statewide with four or more “Reward” schools. ● Wayzata Public Schools students continue to perform at very high levels on the Minnesota Department of Education accountability assessments (MCA, MCA-Mod, MTAS) with 80.5 percent of students proficient in reading and 82.0 percent proficient in math on 2013-14 state-mandated assessments. ● Year after year, the average score of Wayzata students on the ACT exceeds both the state and national averages. For the 2013-14 school year, the average score of Wayzata students on the ACT was 26.1, with the state average at 22.9 and the national average at 21.0.

Currently, open enrollment in the district is limited due to space constraints. For more information, contact the District Welcome Center at 763-745-5240.

Other Enrollment Options

Wayzata is a member of the West Metro Education Program and students may attend the FAIR School (Crystal) or the Interdistrict Downtown School (Minneapolis) at no charge if space is available. Wayzata also participates in the Choice is Yours Program, a form of Open Enrollment, which provides opportunities for low-income Minneapolis students to attend suburban schools. Accomplishments ● 16 students from Wayzata High School were chosen as National Merit Scholarship finalists in 2014. ● Elementary, middle and high school students regularly receive recognition and top honors in a variety of academic, co-curricular and extracurricular activities and competitions. ● As evidence of our district’s strong financial health, Wayzata Public Schools’ bond rating was reaffirmed by Standard and Poor’s as “AAA.” This rating is based on a variety of factors including the financial strength and stability of our district. The district has also maintained a “AAA” rating with Moody’s Investor Services. These ratings mean the district will receive lower interest rates on bonds resulting in a savings to residents on investments in public education. ● More than 90 percent of Wayzata High School’s class of 2014 chose to attend two- or four-year colleges or universities.

Making a difference for students ● In December 2011, the Wayzata School Board approved a Strategic Roadmap to guide the district into the future. Visit our website for regular progress updates as we celebrate our journey toward realizing our mission of ensuring a world-class education that prepares each and every student to thrive today and excel tomorrow in an ever-changing global society. ● In the spring of 2014, district residents approved a $109 million referendum to expand the high school, build an eighth elementary and improve district infrastructure and building security. ● The MyWay for Student Learning Program is a long-term effort to put a digital learning device (iPad) in the hands of all students to increase student learning and engagement.
