Spanish ‘Round the World

*For children 2 - 5 years old on or before September 1, 2015, but not yet in kindergarten

Senora McCartney’s preschool Spanish series is the perfect way to kick off your child’s summer adventures! The students will create their “passports” and every day they will “travel” to a different Spanish-speaking country to discover its foods, culture, dance, crafts, animals, and most of all, language. They will sing songs in Spanish, dance, play games and make crafts building the children’s Spanish vocabulary along the way. Each day there will be a special snack, including some ethnic treats made during class.

Camp Peppermint Fence is the best of summer and the best of preschool! Children will be grouped in classes by age. All sessions meet from 9:00 a.m. - Noon. You have a variety of options to participate in Camp Peppermint Fence.

New Baby? Congratulations! You can Request a FREE HUG Visit! Wayzata Schools and HUG (Helping Us Grow) offer free home visits to all district families with an infant, from birth to 1 year old. The visit includes a “Welcome New Baby” gift and current information on community resources, parenting and brain-based learning. The home visits are individually completed with a licensed Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) specialist. If you would like to request a FREE home visit, please register online or call 763-745-5290.

do you have a 3 or 4 year old? Early Childhood Screening Early Childhood Screening is a free, quick, simple and important check of how your child is progressing in his/her development. Screening is recommended when a child is three to four years of age and must be completed prior to starting kindergarten in any Minnesota public school. Early childhood developmental screening helps a school district identify children who may benefit from district and community resources available to help in their development. You attend the screening with your child and receive a full report of how your child is growing, developing, and learning following the screening. Screening is offered by appointment throughout the school year. To schedule your child’s appointment in the Wayzata School District call 763-745-5255.

Are You Concerned About Your Child’s Development? Questions and concerns regarding your child’s development are encouraged! Call Robin Henslin, Early Childhood Special Education Coordinator, at 763-745-5042. You can also email her at robin.henslin@wayzata.k12.mn.us

Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is unique to Minnesota. This nationally celebrated model supports the essential role of parents as their birth to 5 year old children’s first and most important teachers. ECFE programs require degreed, licensed early childhood teachers and parent educators. Our ECFE is typical of Wayzata Schools, a model of excellence and among the very best in Minnesota. We have the energy and resources to meet the needs of your family.

Baby Steps: 0 - 12 Months What does your baby need from you? What do YOU need for yourself? Start out on the right foot! Discover new ways to support and enjoy your baby, engage with other moms and dads, and build on your strengths. Playtime and “nesting” with your infant will be followed by parent discussion and the best available information and support from our experienced, licensed parent educators. Your baby will stay with you. Whether this is your first or fifth child, your baby is unique and special, and so is this time in your life.

Busy Ones: 12 - 24 Months Explore the world through your toddler’s eyes, connect with other families, enhance your parenting skills, discover fresh activity ideas, and navigate the joys and challenges of raising a toddler. Wondering about your toddler’s intense emotions, nutrition, sleep, or how to take care of yourself? Group discussion and the best, most reliable information from our professional teachers will increase your joy and confidence as a parent.

Kids on the Go: 24+ Months Enjoy quality focus and play time with your 2 to 5 year old, innovative parenting strategies and support, new friendships for you and your child, and ways to help your child learn and develop to his/her potential. During separation, you and your child will discover the joys of learning and growing with other families, along with the support and guidance from licensed teachers and parent educators. Choose the class with a birth date range that fits your child.

NEW!!! I-Spy STEM-Focused Class (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Ages 2 - Kindergarten Entrance

Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE)

Attention, persistence, inventiveness, and creativity! These are just a few of the 21st century skills that you and your child can expect to practice in this new class! Age-appropriate activities will provide parents and their active learners an opportunity to investigate, build, and problem solve together. While children learn and discover through play, caregivers will gain STEM background, knowledge, and language to help their child succeed.

Sibling Care This program is available to siblings of children enrolled in a daytime ECFE class. Infant siblings under 4 months of age may stay with their parents in an ECFE class or in Sibling Care. If your baby is over 4 months, you will need to register for Sibling Care or find other child care when they reach that age.

ECFE for Dads and Kids Ages 3 - Kindergarten Entrance This class is designed with dads in mind! Schedules are busy, but we are dedicating a session just for dads and their children ages 3 - Kindergarten entrance! This class will give fathers an opportunity to interact with their children in a focused environment, free from outside distractions. Have fun seeing how interested your child is in learning and how they can grasp new skills! The class is only five sessions long!
