Everybody’s talking about Community Ed wayzataschools.org/communityed 2 | Fall 2022
WELCOME TO COMMUNITY ED! Dear Wayzata School Community, Let me start by saying thank you! The past few years have not been easy for anyone, and we continue to be grateful for the support we have received along the way from our school community. Our staff, students, families and community have shown incredible resilience throughout the pandemic and we are hopeful that we have finally turned a corner. It’s hard to believe that the start of the 2022-23 school year is right around the corner on September 6. We are excited to welcome back all of our students and learners, from preschoolers through adults. There is nothing better than seeing your smiling faces and the joy of learning in action! I hope you will take time to visit us during the coming year. Take one of the many classes offered through Community Ed highlighted in this catalog, volunteer in our schools, or attend a concert, theater performance or sporting event. You can also follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to find out what is happening and stay up-to-date with all the amazing accomplishments of our students and staff. As the old proverb says, it takes a village to raise a child. Thank you for your ongoing support of our schools! I always appreciate hearing your thoughts and ideas, Chace B. Anderson Superintendent Wayzata Public Schools chace.anderson@wayzataschools.org

PRESCHOOL / ECFE
Our much-loved preschool is part of our district’s family of schools delivering excellence for each and every student. Preschool classes are inclusive and diverse. The classroom is warm and caring. Our staff do an outstanding job of preparing preschoolers for kindergarten and helping them with that transition. Classroom staff use Creative Curriculum to plan activities and Teaching Strategies Gold to monitor children’s learning. Second Step curriculum is used for whole group social emotional lessons. The Classroom Engagement Model is used to ensure every child is engaged and learning. Pyramid Model is used to provide high quality learning environments, staff and student relationships, and targeted teaching of social emotional skills. • There is limited space available in our part-day and full-day preschool programs. • Classes are located at the Early Learning School and all nine elementary schools. • Be sure to check out our new nature-based preschool too.

“ECFE classes have been an incredible resource for me as a parent. The class is welcoming, non-judgemental, low pressure, and relevant in the information provided. There are planned topics but if organic topics arise, conversation is allowed to divert wherever the current need may be. I am able to take home practical skills and knowledge and incorporate them into my daily life with ease and immediacy. I cannot recommend ECFE enough, it is a life saver in the overwhelming ocean of parenting.”
