Opera House Housing In The City Robochop Bench/Rack Design * Most design and technical drawings have been scaled down and are not to specific scale unless otherwise stated.
The collection of works in this portfolio are samples of projects I have been working on during the previous 3 years. The contents represent an approach to experiementation in Design Theory and technical knowhow. It is also an explorative ground to develop a set of architectural and digital skills.

Canterburry Street
Harrington Street
Opera House Undergraduate Degree Third Yeard Major Project. The task was to propose an urban design scheme for the surrounding area of Harrington Square in Cape Town and from there indentify a possible site for the Opera House.
My urban design scheme aimed at creating a more pedestrian atmosphere on Canterbury Street, by widening the walkways to give life to the street by allowing for more human interaction on the street--facade level. Harrington Square becomes the focal point of Canterbury Street and creates a public space surrounded by cultural spaces and typologies such as libraries, art galleries and mediatheque. Across the square is a garden that binds together the public space of the square and the Opera House. The design scheme of the opera is to allow a constant flux of pedestrian to move in and out of the city through it’s threshold by moving within the building. The main opera spaces are raised above the ground allowing for public interaction to take place in the foyer as well as lateral spaces for people to commute from the end to the front of the building.
A strip sectional cardboard scaled model through the Opera House with more than 50 layers and 200+ individual pieces stacked on top of each other. Each layer and piece were lasercut over a period of 8 hours. The layers where then glued together. The purpose of the strip sectional model was to visualise space and the effect of light within that space.
Housing in the City This was part of the final project for second year architecture studio work. The brief was to propose solutions for the housing issues in the city and to come up with a design proposal that can be scalable My response to the brief of this project was to create modulor accomodations that could be replicated, repeated and fit together at a bigger scale. The repeated modules form appartment spaces and the pattern creates a unique facade. The design of the modules were inspired from Le Corbusier’s UnitÊe D’habitation. The angled position of each opening captures the optimum amount of sunlight and provide great views without compromising the privacy available to other modules.
Robochop Robochop was a robotic installation designed by Clemens Weishaar and Reed Kram that allowed designers around the world to design products with a 40x40x40 durable foam cube, cut by a hot wire cutter. The selected designs were manufactured live at Code_n during CeBit 2015 in Hanover, Germany. The piece of furniture I designed is to be used both for seating or as a magazine rack.
