USINESS DEVELOPME Vision The Women’s Business Development Center (WBDC) envisions a world in which women and minority business owners compete equally in the business sector and have opportunities to reach economic independence through entrepreneurship.

Mission The mission of the WBDC is to provide services and programs that support and accelerate women’s business ownership and strengthen their impact on the economy.

Objectives All WBDC programs and services are outcome oriented. They are targeted at assisting entrepreneurs to establish and grow sustainable, profitable small businesses that create jobs and fuel economic growth. THE WBDC’S GOALS ARE TO: ■

WBDC’s learning vehicle for people who need to work on their business whether they are start-up or emerging businesses. A hybrid program, mixing online tools and in-person trainings, participants will earn a Business Plan Development Program Certificate for creating a solid business plan to take your business concept into reality.
Mentoring

The WBDC provides an online platform for clients to self-select mentors that can guide based on your specific needs as a new business owner. The WBDC supports the program with in-person meet-ups and trainings on how to be an effective mentee.
Access to Capital

eLearning courses are available anytime, anywhere to teach you the necessary financial skills for running an effective business. Plus, our financial experts can assist with identifying the most effective funding source for your start-up, whether that be the WBDC’s direct lending through the Micro Finance Program or planning your crowdfunding strategy and regularly provide workshops on all the necessary topics.

In partnership with the Illinois Department of Veteran Affairs, the WBDC offers entrepreneurial training and business counseling at no cost to women veterans who are considering business ownership as a pathway to economic security. The program provides a support infrastructure that covers both business development and social service needs.

Through our Illinois Procurement Technical Assistance Center (IL PTAC), the WBDC offers webinars, dynamic in-person trainings, often featuring local and state level procurement representatives, and one-on-one counseling focused on winning contracts with the government. Determine which public sector certification is right for you, identify sub-contracting opportunities and much more by visiting the Illinois PTAC at the WBDC. Gus Morales | Gusco: In the past three years Gus has grown his client base and now not only produces silicon products for the government but also for private clients in various industries such as healthcare, food, aerospace and others. In the past two years, his revenues have doubled with a staff of only four employees.

Not only does the WBDC certify women business owners as Certified Women Business Enterprises (WBEs), but the WBDC also provides capacity building workshops, webinars and one-on-one counseling throughout a nine state Midwest region (see map on page 66). The WBDC’s Corporate Partner list continues to grow as we bring supplier diversity best practices to new companies and advocate on behalf of WBEs. To better meet the needs of clients, the WBDC provides all of its programs and services in Spanish. Additionally, as a part of the Latina Business Program, the Latina Entrepreneurial Accelerated Development (LEAD) Program will be launching in the Fall of 2014 for established business owners looking to assume leadership roles in their communities and to develop their strategic growth plans. Early Childhood Education Entrepreneurship Program

The Early Childhood Education Entrepreneurship Program (ECEEP) provides ongoing business development training and education to prospective and established home and center-based child care entrepreneurs. The WBDC understands that affordable child care businesses make a community vibrant and enable full participation in the marketplace by women and minorities. Shanetha Pollnitz | Tiny Tots Tabernacle: Not long after Tiny Tots opened, she discovered the Women’s Business Development Center’s business training series Developing Your Child Care Business in a suburb very close to her house. “I was thrilled to find a training series so accommodating and relevant for my business,” says Shanetha. “The training series really helped me learn about the financial aspect of my business and how to get it organized.”
