WCAPS Statement on the Russian Invasion of Ukraine WCAPS stands with the civilians of Ukraine as the ongoing crisis is a threat to peace and security in Europe and across the globe. The conflict that has been witnessed over the last 24 hours impacts and disrupts the lives of women, children, and marginalized populations the most. We will continue to join the international community in calling for peace throughout the region. Also, we are calling on aid organizations and governments to support the humanitarian needs of Ukrainian civilians. We must also recognize the severe physical and psychological impact this has on society but in particular women and children who often bear the brunt of international conflict. The ongoing conflict in Eastern Europe puts human safety and human rights at risk. The ripple effect of Russia's invasion of Ukraine creates concern for the safety of vulnerable populations in the region. As the Russo-Ukraine conflict impacts Eastern European nations, Eastern European NATO nations are on guard and have invoked Article 4 of the National Atlantic Treaty Organization. The imminent threat of the Russian invasion also threatens the well-being of women and children in our ally NATO nations. Peace is delicate, intricate, and easily disrupted. As a global community, we should all strive to maintain peace. As WCAPS, we urge our leaders and peacekeeping organizations to provide aid to Ukrainian citizens.
