The Early Childhood Education Club is sponsoring the BonTon Community Day Coupon Book fundraising event. Each coupon book is $5 and contains numerous coupons at the Bon-Ton to be used Saturday, February 26th. For instance, one coupon in the book is worth $10 off a purchase of $10 or more. Using only this coupon pays back the cost of the booklet! All the profit from this fundraiser will go to the ECE club and benefits the students by providing assistance to defray the cost of joining PAEYC, the Pittsburgh Association for the Education of Young Children. ECE Students to Inspired at PAEYC Membership Drive In the Fall of 2010, a group of ECE students attended a PAEYC membership drive held in the WCCC Amphitheater. They were inspired to form a student chapter. This would be the first student chapter of its kind for PAEYC. It would wonderful to bring this inspiration to reality and begin it here at WCCC! Please talk to your fellow ECE classmates and meet with Beth Hoden for more information. This is a great opportunity for all ECE students to advance in knowledge in the early childhood education profession.
Information About PAEYC The Pittsburgh Association for the Education of Young Children (PAEYC) is the professional membership organization for those involved with the early care an education of young children. Doctors, lawyers, and other professionals have membership associations which provide a unified voice on behalf of their members. In the same way, PAEYC serves as a community resource, and advocate for quality, and a voice for those in the profession of early care and education. PAEYC currently serves over 1000 members and is governed by an elected board. Members and those interested are encouraged to serve on a committee and take an active role in PAEYC programs including Membership Services, Advocacy & Public Policy, and Professional Development. WCCC and Nine Western PA Colleges & Universities Sign Early Childhood Education Articulation Agreement Westmoreland County Community College early childhood education associate degree graduates will now be able to transfer their credits into bachelor’s degree programs at five Western Pennsylvania universities through an articulation agreement signed Wednesday, June 16. Officials from the community colleges in Westmoreland, Allegheny, Beaver and Butler counties and Penn Highlands Community College, signed the articulation agreement with representatives from Carlow University and Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education universities including California, Clarion, Indiana and Slippery Rock. Community college students who earn an associate in applied science degree or associate of science degree in early childhood education may transfer up to 60 credits into the bachelor’s degree programs at the four-year schools. Students may pursue teacher certification, majoring in early childhood education at the universities. “This agreement will allow early childhood education graduates at WCCC and the other community colleges to seamlessly transfer their credits to any of the five universities without losing credits or repeating coursework,” said Beth Hoden, WCCC assistant professor of early childhood education.
