Summer Ag Institute set Woodford The Woodford County Farm Bureau is partnering with several area County Farm Bureaus and Illinois Central College to sponsor the Summer Agricultural Institute June 13 - 17, 2011.
Legislative Coffee March 11 The Woodford County Farm Bureau will host a Legislative Coffee on Friday, March 11, at 9:30 a.m. at the Woodford County Farm Bureau Building in Eureka. State Senator Dale Risinger and state representatives David Leitch and Keith Sommer will provide insight on issues they will be facing in Springfield. Newly appointed State Senator Shane Cultra has been invited as well as Congressman Aaron Schock. Opportunity will be given for the audience to also provide their opinions on issues important to Agriculture and Woodford County. For more information, contact the Farm Bureau at 467-2347.
The SAI is designed for Pre School through High School educators who wish to expand their curriculum to include topics related to agriculture. The class will provide resources and hands-on activities about agriculture and the environment. Participants will also learn about the state’s largest industry through Industry Field Trips. Class size is limited. Applicants will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Registration Deadline is May 6. The fee for the Summer Ag Institute is $150. Thirty five CPDUS or two hours of Graduate Credit is available through Aurora College. Tuition will be $100 per credit hour, in addition to the SAI fee. Fees cover transportation, materials and meals. Payment should accompany the application. WCFB Board Members and Volunteers competed in “Flashback for Cash” at the 7th Annual IAA Foundation Trivia Night at the IAA Annual Meeting. Woodford County may not have won the Trivia Competition, but did win best Team/Table Decorations – ousting our neighbors to the Southwest, and two-time Decoration Champions, Tazewell County. More importantly, the event raised more than $11,500 for Agriculture in the Classroom programs and efforts. Thank you to Laura Moritz, Jacki Moritz, Cheryl Pfanz and Dana White for their hard work in putting the table together.

County FB recognized The Woodford County Farm Bureau was recognized for its achievements during the 96th annual meeting of the Illinois Farm Bureau held in St. Louis December 4-7. A member of Membership Group IV, Woodford County received the following program awards: Bronze Ag Literacy Member Relations County Farm Bureaus in Membership Group IV are those with between 3000 and 5400 members. As part of its Annual Meeting, Illinois Farm Bureau presents program and committee awards in recognition of outstanding county Farm Bureau volunteer efforts throughout the year. Woodford County received a Bronze for Women’s Committee achievement. Sean Arians, a Woodford County native, was also elected as State Young Leader Chair for the year 2011. Arians will serve on the Illinois Farm Bureau Board in an Advisory Role. He represents District 7 quite well. Raised in Woodford County, pretty close to the Marshall County Line, he currently works for Precision Planting, in Tazewell County, and resides in McLean County! The Illinois Farm Bureau is a member of the American Farm Bureau Federation, a national organization of farmers and ranchers. Founded in 1916, IFB is a non-profit, membership organization controlled by farmers who join through their county Farm Bureau. IFB represents two out of three Illinois farmers.
