What is Design an Ad? Students from Northeast Iowa participate in the Newspaper in Education Design an Ad Contest! The Design an Ad Contest is sponsored by The Courier’s Newspaper in Education Program and area advertisers. Open to students in grades 4-8, Design an Ad is intended to teach students about newspaper advertising and to help them become more critical consumers. Students are encouraged to get their creative juices flowing combining color, catchy phrases and original artwork. Each class that registered was matched with one or more local businesses. Each participating business selected an ad to run inside the Design an Ad publication.
