THE FAN WAS TAKEN APART AND EACH COMPONENT WAS INDIVIDUALLY MEASURED. IT WAS CONSTRUCTED WITH FIVE COMPONENTS: [ A ] JOINT [ B ] INNER SPIKES X 27 [ C ] PAPER [ D ] EXTERIEOR SPIKES X 2

THE STRUCTURE IS HELD TOGETHER AT THE POINT OF THE JOINT ALLOWING THE FAN TO OPEN AND CLOSE. THE ATTACHMENT OF THE PAPER TO THE SPIKES AT THE TOP AND ALSO WITH THE EXTERIOR SPIKES RESTAINS THE ANGLES THE FAN CAN OPEN TO. IT’S A COMBINATION OF A SERIES OF PANELS CONNECTED WITH FOLDS ALLOWING THE STRUCTURE TO BE DYNAMIC IN IT’S MOVEMENT. [C] FOLDING COMPONENT

EACH MODULAR TRIANGLE IS FORMED BY THREE COMPONENTS


SKETCH MODEL : ANALYSIS THIS MODEL WAS CONSTRUCTED WITH THE USE OF MODULAR ORIGAMI TRIANGLES AND THE SPIRES OF THE FAN. THE TRIANGLES WERE CONSTRUCTED WITH THREE 4CM X 4CM PAPER THAT WERE FOLDED TO FORM A TRAPEZIUM. THEY INTERLOCKED TO FORM A MODULAR TRIANGLE WHERE ONE SURFACE WAS SMALLER THAN THE OTHER. THIS ALLOWED ME TO CREATE 3D GEOMETRY BY EITHER CONNECTING THE MODULAR TRIANGLES WITH EACH OTHER OR WITH THE SPIKES. THE FORM THAT IS SELF SUPPORTING IT’S TRIANGULAR STRUCTURE ACTS AS A BRACE. THE ABILITY TO CREATE FLAT AND CURVED SURFACES GIVES IT A SOLID BASE.. THE LIGHTWEIGHT MATERIAL ENABLES THE CONNECTIONS TO REPLY SOLELY ON ITSELF AND GLUE THAN REQUIRING AN EXTERNAL JOINT.
