The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Committee met this year for the first time as an official JLOC Committee. The committee is comprised of appointed leaders from each Council, Members of the Board of Directors and additional Members-at-Large to allow for a diverse make-up of committee members. The Committee was formed from the DEI Task Force that was organized two years ago to address the desire of our Members to take steps to be a more inclusive organization. The DEI Task Force surveyed Membership and then laid out the ground work for the DEIB Committee to put in to place.

The "Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion" statement was added to our website and is also included on the meeting agenda template for all committees to utilize to make sure Membership is informed and aware of the statement. That was a small step towards in Life, Love and Work by Dr. Meg Myers Morgan as its springboard. The book and the Leadership Institute encourage participants to develop their negotiation skills in all areas of life. For the final meeting of the Leadership Institute, author Meg Myers Morgan joined the cohort to give a special presentation about negotiation, collaboration and knowing your worth.

Artisha Woody incorporating ideas and discussions of diversity and inclusion in materials used by our Membership. Creating an inclusive environment is not just directed at our Membership but also in the organizations and partnerships that we form throughout the years. This year, the DEIB Committee focused on creating a diversity matrix for Mistletoe Market and Whale of a Sale. Making sure to have a variety of merchants is important in the people that are attracted to the Junior League through our fundraisers. This same model was also used to look at how our programming was formed. This includes GMMs, trainings and programs that JLOC holds throughout the year.
