GUEST ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES Kristian Paradis is an active steel-pan performer based in Newark, Delaware. He received his Bachelor of Arts

degree in Music Performance from the University of Delaware in 1999, graduated from the Armed Forces School of Music in 2000, and earned his Masters degree in steelpan performance from the University of Delaware in 2005. After graduating from the Armed Forces School of Music in 2000, Mr. Paradis became a member of the Seventh Fleet Navy Band in Japan. He served as the drummer for the Show Band Far East Edition, drummer and steel-pan soloist in the Navy Jazz Combo, principal percussionist in the Navy concert and ceremonial band, lead pan player for the Tokyo Panorama Steel Orchestra and the Royal Palms Steel Band, as well as his own group, Paradise Steel. Mr. Paradis has performed in Russia, China, Japan, Australia, and Germany, among many other countries around the globe. He currently teaches for the University of Delaware, the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, and the Delaware Department of Education in Dover, Delaware.

Dr. Juan Álamo is an internationally known performer, composer, and educator. He holds a Bachelor of Music

degree from the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, and Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees with Jazz as related field from the University of North Texas. Originally from Cidra, Puerto Rico, Dr. Álamo has presented solo recitals at universities and percussion and jazz festivals throughout the United States, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. He has been featured as a soloist and with Jazz ensembles in television and radio shows in Puerto Rico, Mexico, Venezuela, and the United States. Currently Juan is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Percussion Ensemble at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Cristina Álamo Medina is a Puerto Rican singer of salsa, Latin jazz. She has performed in music festivals, concert

halls, universities and clubs in Latin America, Europe, the Caribbean, and the US. Cristina began to develop her singing and acting interest while performing many musicals in Texas. She was part of the cast of “The Promise” a musical production at the Amphitheater in Glenrose Texas. She is the lead vocalist of the Latin Jazz quintet Marimjazzia. Christina is featured in the 2019 recording Ruta Panoramica by Marimjazzia. She is also part of the salsa band Orquesta Gardel from Raleigh, NC. She does guest appearances with the UNC Charanga Carolina. Currently, Cristina is working on her first salsa album with original music and lyrics written by her husband Juan Álamo. For this album, Christina is collaborating with some of the top salsa artists from Puerto Rico: Jerry Rivas, Quique Domenech , and Norberto Velez. The album is projected to be released in the fall of 2020.

Chico Huff has been playing electric bass professionally for about 40 years. Primarily self-taught, he did his first paying gig at about 14 years old, playing standards on Martha's Vineyard. Over the years he's had the pleasure of performing and/or recording with these fine folks: James Taylor, Kate Taylor, Alex Taylor, Carly Simon, Jeff Golub, Richard Elliott, Jef Lee Johnson, Kit Walker, Solas, Seamus Egan, Karan Casey, Liz Carroll, Chuck Leob, Terrance Blanchard, John Belushi, Dr. John, John Swana, Cathy Ryan, John Hall, Jefferson Airplane, Francois Corneloup, Susan Werner, Antje Duvecot, Lizanne Knott, and many more.
