ARTIST PROFILE Ovidiu Marinescu is internationally recognized as a cellist, composer, conductor, and educator. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, Weill Hall, Merkin Hall (New York), the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Holywell Room in Oxford, Oriental Art Center in Shanghai, and has appeared as soloist with the New York Chamber Symphony, the National Radio Orchestra of Romania, Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Helena, Great Falls, Portsmouth, and Newark Symphonies, Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Philharmonic, Limeira Symphony in Brazil, Orquesta de Extremadura in Spain, and most of the professional orchestras in his native Romania. Marinescu’s compositions have been performed in Romania, China, Brazil, Bulgaria, Russia, Guatemala, Montenegro, and across the United States. He has been composer-in-residence for the International Chamber Music Festival in Guatemala City and the 7th edition of the International String Encounters in Limeira, Brazil. Marinescu has more than 15 album releases for Parma Recordings and Cambria as a cellist, composer, conductor, or chamber musician, and several recordings released independently. Upcoming projects for 2022 include the recording for 8 new cello concerti with London Symphony. Marinescu’s ongoing MOTO series, developed with Parma Recordings, has been praised as “bold and expressive” (Gramophone Magazine) and “tight, musical, technically virtuosic” (The Whole Note). Since its launch in 2012, the MOTO series has premiered works by nearly three dozen composers in both recordings and performance at Carnegie Hall. Equally successful as a conductor, Marinescu has worked with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra in Moscow, the Chamber Orchestra of the Romanian Radio, “New Russia” State Orchestra, the Orchestra Society of Philadelphia, the Bacau, Craiova, Ploiesti, Botosani, Targu Mures, and Brasov Philharmonics in Romania, Filarmonica de Gaia in Portugal, Orquesta de Extremadura in Spain, the Helena, Newark, and Southeastern PA Symphony Orchestras, as well as Vidin Sinfonietta in Bulgaria. Marinescu is Artistic Director of the International Musicians Academy. More information can be found at www.marinescu.com Pianist Carl Cranmer made his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra at age nine, playing Mozart's Concerto in A Major, K. 488. In addition to solo recitals in Europe, Asia, and North America, he has performed with the Royal Philharmonic of England, the Gulbenkian Orquesta of Portugal, the Juilliard Orchestra and several other orchestras in the U.S. and Asia. Cranmer's performances have been televised in Madrid, Tokyo, Montreal, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia, and have been aired on American National Public Radio, and radio stations in Tokyo, New York, Montreal, Boston, and Atlanta. He performed two solo concert tours of Spain in 1997-98. Carl Cranmer has recorded several CD's, including a solo album titled "Soirée", of the music of Poulenc, Fauré, Liszt, Granados, Chopin and Samuel Barber. With the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, he recorded Samuel Barber's Piano Concerto in 2008, and in 2015 he released a CD of Barber's complete published solo piano music. In 2018 he plans to record an all-Fauré CD of his solo piano music, and Rachmaninov's Suite No. 1 and 2 and other pieces for two pianos with pianist Young-Ah Tak. Cranmer has performed in Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Weill Hall, Alice Tully Hall and Merkin Hall in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and Academy of Music, Verizon Hall and the Perelman Theater in Philadelphia. Dr. Cranmer was the Grand Prize winner of the 1994 Missouri Southern Piano Competition, and won the Spanish Music Prize and Finalist Prize in the 1995 Santander Paloma O'Shea International Piano Competition in Santander, Spain. Dr. Cranmer received his Doctoral and Master’s degrees at the Juilliard School, and his undergraduate degree from Oberlin Conservatory. He is an Associate Professor at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, where he is also Artistic Director of the American Piano Forum and Samuel Barber International Piano Institute in summer.
