KSCC Directors Karen L. Markey, Founding Director The Kennett Symphony Children’s Chorus was founded in 1990 and is a community organization for boys and girls ages six through eighteen. The Children's Chorus provides qualified singers an opportunity to perform high-caliber, age-appropriate repertoire that is culturally and musically diverse while nurturing vocal and musical development within a group setting. Singers are auditioned and placed by age, experience, and skill in one of three groups: Ensemble, Chorus, or Youth Chorale. Numbering more than eighty singers, the Children’s Chorus was the outcome of the vision of Founding Director, Karen L. Markey. Choristers represent public, private, parochial and home schools in the Susquehanna and Brandywine Valleys and the Northern Delaware Region. The Kennett Symphony Children’s Chorus is an educational outreach of the Kennett Symphony Orchestra of Chester County.

She is excited to be working with the singers of the Kennett Symphony Children’s Chorus!

KSCC Accompanist Taylor Gavin is pianist/accompanist from the West Chester area. In May of 2016, she graduated from West Chester University with a Bachelors of Music in Music Education. After graduation, she worked for two years as a contracted accompanist at WCU, playing for voice lessons and the opera productions. Taylor currently teaches in Great Valley School District and is a private piano instructor for Joe Kenney Studios in the Chester County area.

KSCC Interns and Scholarship Recipients for the 2018-2019 Season Allie Bruch is a third year intern with the Kennett Symphony Children's Chorus. Working with KSCC is the highlight of her college career. Working with Paige and the Chorus this year has been such a pleasure and she cannot wait to continue growing with this organization. Stephen Gliatto graduated college with a degree in biology but realized during his senior year his true desire was to become a choir director. He is currently in his fourth year at WCU pursuing a music education degree. This is his fourth semester working with KSCC, and he is extremely grateful for how the ensemble is bringing him closer to his dream! Devaney Ross is a senior Music Education major with a vocal concentration. Other than KSCC, Devaney also teaches private voice and piano lessons with Greensleeves Music. This past summer, she was a teacher at the Yocum Institute of the Arts, where she taught music lessons of various themes to kids ages 3-10 and vocal masterclasses to teenagers. She has also interned with Berks Youth Chorus for their summer choir camps. Devaney is excited to start student teaching next semester! Lauren Longhi is a senior music education major with a concentration in voice. This is her second year working with KSCC and she has enjoyed every moment. KSCC Senior Bios Emma Kenney-Hynes joined KSCC in fifth grade. Eight years later, she now plans to attend West Chester University to study Psychology and hopes to continue singing with the group through college. Emma cherishes her memories of KSCC, everything from the friends she made to traveling to Pittsburgh for the PMEA performance. Alyson Gehrke is a senior at Unionville High School and is in her 11 th year singing with KSCC. Alyson joined when she was 7 years old after her Pre-K music teacher, Mrs. Markey recommended she join. Alyson has greatly enjoyed her experiences in KSCC and notes that it was made even more special as she was able to sing for 9 years in the same organization with her brother Christopher. Alyson sings in the Unionville Chorale and Concert Choirs and has performed at Epcot in the holiday season Candlelight Processional. Alyson has spent 4 years in the Unionville High School marching band color guard, the winter season Indoor Guard and serves as co-captain this year. Through band Alyson has performed at the TaxSlayer Bowl in Florida, marched in Disney World and Disneyland, performed at national championships in Dayton, Ohio and this year marched the Tournament of Roses parade on New Year’s Day in Pasadena, CA. Alyson’s future plans include studying animal science and technology at the University of Rhode Island and continuing marching band, color guard and singing. Alyson is very grateful for all the support from her directors over the years and for all the friends she has made in KSCC. Morgan Seward, a senior at Renaissance Academy Charter School, has been a member of KSCC since she was in sixth grade. Morgan has really enjoyed her experiences singing with KSCC. She is so grateful to Mrs. Keller for introducing her to KSCC and to all her directors who have taught her and helped her grow as a singer throughout her KSCC journey. Along with her love of music, Morgan is an active member of her school’s Academic Decathlon team, Quiz Bowl team, National Honor Society, President of the Coexist Club and a goalkeeper for the WC Eagles Field Hockey Club. Morgan plans to attend Johns Hopkins University in the fall, where she will play for their field hockey team, and find new ways to keep music in her life. Seanna Krikorian, a senior at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts, has been singing with KSCC for three years. She has enjoyed being part of the choir, and has made lasting friends along the way. The choir has helped her grow in many ways, helping to teach her leadership and vocal growth. In addition, she participates in many musicals at her school, immersing herself in the arts in as many ways possible. She is very grateful to Dr. Major and Mrs. Keller for helping her become a passionate singer, and she will always remember the advice they have given her. She wants to thank her friend, Casey, for helping her open up and feel comfortable at KSCC, even when she slips up(6/8!!) Seanna's future plans include attending Shenandoah Conservatory, to pursue degrees in Music Education and Vocal Performance. Without KSCC, she would not be the person that she is today, and she is extremely grateful to everyone who has helped her grow.

Our chorus is a family and it takes a village to make this family run. We'd like to thank Rachel Brunke, Rebecca Pershouse Olson, Pam Frasch and all the staff and parent volunteers for working behind the scenes to make this year great!
