She has directed choir performances at numerous events, including the 6ABC Thanksgiving Parade, The Camden Riversharks, and The Reading Phillies. Of great importance to Mrs. Keller is helping students gain musical literacy through Kodaly teaching techniques, to facilitate understanding of the significance of folk songs and their tie to a time, people, and place in history, and awakening her students to the emotional impact of music. Danielle Cullen, Director of the Ensemble - Danielle M. Cullen has been teaching elementary general music in the Downingtown Area School District since 2001. Danielle’s degrees include a Bachelor’s degree in Music education (West Chester University, 2001), a Master’s degree in Music Education with an emphasis in Kodály (West Chester University, 2006), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education (Temple University, 2018). Danielle has certifications in Kodály, Orff, and Music Learning Theory. In addition to teaching in Downingtown, Danielle served as an adjunct professor at Immaculata University, as clarinet professor and teaching undergraduate music education majors, and at University of the Arts, teaching graduate students as part of their summer music studies program. As clinician, Danielle has presented sessions for Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) state conferences as well as local district professional development workshops. Most recently Danielle served as chair for the PMEA Professional Development Council and is currently serving as part of the Professional Development Committee for PMEA District 12. As a clarinetist, Danielle is a member of the Chester County Pops Orchestra, the New Holland Band, and the Pennsylvania Symphonic Winds. Danielle has also performed with the Delaware County Symphony Orchestra, the Mainline Symphony, the Immaculata Symphony, and the Greenleigh Chorale. Kevin McAllister, Director of the Chorus and Bel Canto - Kevin McAllister is the K-5 General Music/Chorus teacher at West Bradford Elementary in the Downingtown Area School District. Prior to working at West Bradford, he taught General Music and Chorus for three years at Hillcrest Elementary in the Upper Darby School District. Mr. McAllister is an active member of the Pennsylvania Music Educator Association, and the Organization of American Kodály Educators.
Congrats to our KSCC Graduates! Evelyn Snyder - I have been a member of KSCC for 12 years! My favorite memories in KSCC definitely have to be forming amazing relationships with the incredible and inspiring women in Bel Canto. I plan to attend Widener University double majoring in Computer Science and Management. While my career plans are not concrete yet, a main goal of mine is to encourage more women to pursue technology fields! Katelyn Fogg - I've been in KSCC for 7 years (since 6th grade). I found that KSCC has provided the perfect place to explore music through different cultures, genres, and self expression. In the Fall, I will begin to study Psychology at Shippensburg University, and hope to continue to pursue music. Shana Deitz - I have been in KSCC since I was in 7th grade. My favorite moment with KSCC is performing at NAfME in Pittsburgh! Overall, I am so grateful that KSCC has given me an amazing 5+ years of making music and creating friendships with other singers. Next year I will be studying political science at the University of Delaware. Kelsey Schaub - I have been a part of Bel Canto/KSCC program for 3 years. A favorite moment of mine was when we did the workshop and got to learn about different music from different cultures. Music and singing have always been a big factor in my life and I couldn't really see myself being without it. In the future, I hope to still be a part of singing in any way possible while in college at Lycoming and travel with it as well. Dominique Diokno - I have been a part of the program for 4 years. I love music making because it brings people together. Even when we’re on different parts, they combine to make a beautiful, harmonious sound as one. I plan to get a dual degree in Psychology and Music! Music is a part of my life, and it always will be. Taylor Strayer - Taylor Strayer is a senior at Octorara High School, and has been a part of KSCC since she was in 8th grade. She loves making music because it's a universal language that everyone can enjoy. She is attending Berklee School of Music in the fall to further study vocal performance and songwriting. Hannah Atlas - This is Hannah’s third year as an intern with KSCC and her first year with the Chorus and Bel Canto groups. She is a senior Music Education major on French Horn at West Chester University. She has sang with Cantari Donne, Mastersingers, and Bel Canto choirs and played with the Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band, Chamber Winds, Wind Symphony, and Wind Ensemble. She is graduating this spring and hopes to be teaching full time in the fall! Casey Jennings has been singing with KSCC since 2008, and she has enjoyed interning with Tyros for the past three years. She is a senior Music Education major at West Chester University and an active participant in multiple ensembles, including Concert Choir, Wind Ensemble, Woodwind Quintet, and Marching Band. Upon graduating this spring, Casey hopes to teach in an elementary music classroom, where she will continue to share her love of music with her students and community. Casey would like to thank everyone in KSCC– her directors, students, friends, and family– for their support in her 14 years of participation.
Message from Eileen Keller: We are thrilled to finally be able to gather together in song! It has been a long two years, but there was always HOPE. Hope inspired our singers to continue making music through our virtual talent show night, virtual choir rehearsals and performances, and finally coming back to in-person learning! Many of our singers stated they did not realize how much they loved something until they could not do it to the fullest. This reflection and perspective has given us so much to be thankful for and to continue our mission to educate and inspire our talented musicians! This fall we hope to offer new music making opportunities that will include finally being able to debut our 2020 commissioned work, Sunlit Path, by local composer Joseph Gregorio! Special thanks to our web designer, Michael Simmons, bookkeeper, Rachel Brunke, and WCU Liaison, Marci Major, for supporting us behind the scenes to make KSCC great! Thank you West Chester University Wells School of Music for being an excellent partner and host to KSCC!
