ARTIST PROFILE & PROGRAM NOTES Professor Gloria Galante, Professional Harpist, is the founder of the WCU Harp Program which began in 1987. The annual WCU Harpfest will be November 11, 2018, 3 PM MWAT hosting Former Royal harpist Claire Jones. (She played for Prince William’s Wedding.) Versatile and dynamic as a performer, deeply committed to teaching and using the harp as an instrument of healing, Gloria Galante is inspiring. Ms. Galante has a music ministry as she mentors students on each level, as well as plays in hospitals and hospices. Gloria, CMP, certified music practitioner plays for Crossroads Hospice as the Gift of the Day Program. She has toured worldwide playing Classical, Jazz, Latin, African and Pop as well as appearing with such greats as Odean Pope, Jose Feliciano, Diana Ross, Frank Sinatra, Jr., and Luther Vandross.Gloria and Odean were paired as duo in 1998 by Alice Coltrane. Their Cd entitled Pope/Galante has received much airplay and recognition in the Jazz world. They performed a concert celebrating John Coltrane’s Birthday in Philadelphia. Gloria is Principal Harpist of the Moog Endorsed Artist, Divine Hand Ensemble.Net performing Opera music repertoire. Equally dedicated and experienced as an educator, Professor Galante is the founder of West Chester University SchooL of Music/Harp program in its 30th year. Gloria is the director of the WCU Harp Ensemble, a Musicopia ensemble leader, and serves on the prestigious PA Council on the Arts as a teaching artist.Along with 30 recordings and compositions, Gloria has released two therapeutic CDs dedicated to raising funds for Cancer Cure. She is a certified CMP and advisor (from Music for Healing and Transition). She is making history as the first CMP-certified music practitioner to play for In vitro fertilization patients to reduce anxiety during transfers at Toll Center Abington Hospital. She participated as a CMP and part of an IVF team of Doctors, Nurses, Embryologists in a two year powered study completed by Dr. Barmat in 2001.Currently, Ms. Galante is available to provide therapeutic music for transfers. www.abingtonreproductivemedicine.com Alice Coltrane (née McLeod, August 27, 1937 – January 12, 2007), known by her adopted Sanskrit name Turiyasangitananda or Turiya Alice Coltrane, was an American jazz musician and composer, and in her later years a swamini. One of the few harpists in the history of jazz, she recorded many albums as a bandleader, beginning in the late 1960s and early 1970s for Impulse! and other major record labels. She was the second wife of jazz saxophonist and composer John Coltrane. Odean Pope introduced Alice to Gloria is 1997 in Philaldephia at a Pharoah Sanders and Alice Coltrane Concert. They were friends ever since. Gloria was mentored by Alice. Achille-Claude Debussy was a French composer. He is sometimes seen as the first Impressionist composer, although he rejected the term. He was among the most influential composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Nikolai Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov was a Russian composer, and a member of the group of composers known as The Five. He was a master of orchestration. Pietro Antonio Stefano Mascagni was an Italian composer most noted for his operas. His 1890 masterpiece Cavalleria Rusticana caused one of the greatest sensations in opera history and single-handedly ushered in the Verismo movement in Italian dramatic music.
