TRANSLATIONS Exultate justi Rejoice in the Lord, O ye just; praise befits the upright. Give praise to the Lord on the harp; sing to him with the psaltery, the instrument of ten strings. Sing to him a new canticle, sing well unto him with a loud noise. Rejoice in the Lord, O ye just; praise befits the upright. Veni Sancti Spiritus Come, Holy Spirit, send forth the heavenly ray of your light. O most blessed light, fill the inmost heart of your faithful. Alleluia. Abendlied Night and day are engaged in peaceful struggle as if they are able to dampen or to dissolve. Are you asleep, Grief, who depressed me? What was it then, my heart, that made me happy? Both joy and sorrow, I feel, did melt away but gently they introduced the slumber. And, while evermore floating upward, life itself appears to me like a lullaby. Requiem Eternal rest give unto them, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon them. The just shall be in everlasting remembrance; he shall not fear the evil hearing. Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy. Dies irae The day of wrath, that day, will dissolve the world in ashes: (this is) the testimony of (both) David and the Sibyl. How great will be the quaking, when the Judge is about to come, strictly investigating all things! The trumpet, scattering a wondrous sound through the sepulchres of the regions, will summon all before the throne. Death and nature will marvel, when the creature will rise again, to respond to the Judge. The written book will be brought forth, in which all is contained, from which the world shall be judged. When therefore the Judge will sit, whatever lies hidden, will appear: nothing will remain unpunished.

What then shall I, poor wretch [that I am], say? Which patron shall I entreat, when [even] the just may [only] hardly be sure? King of fearsome majesty, Who gladly save those fit to be saved, save me, O fount of mercy. Remember, merciful Jesus, that I am the cause of Your journey: lest You lose me in that day. Seeking me, You rested, tired: You redeemed [me], having suffered the Cross: let not such hardship be in vain. Just Judge of vengeance, make a gift of remission before the day of reckoning. I sigh, like the guilty one: my face reddens in guilt: Spare the imploring one, O God. You Who absolved Mary, and heard the robber, gave hope to me also. My prayers are not worthy: but You, [Who are] good, graciously grant that I be not burned up by the everlasting fire. Grant me a place among the sheep, and take me out from among the goats, setting me on the right side. Once the cursed have been silenced, sentenced to acrid flames, Call me, with the blessed. [Humbly] kneeling and bowed I pray, [my] heart crushed as ashes: take care of my end. Tearful [will be] that day, on which from the glowing embers will arise the guilty man who is to be judged: Then spare him, O God. Merciful Lord Jesus, grant them rest. Amen. Sanctus Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts. Heaven and earth are full of Thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is He Who cometh in the Name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Kyrie Lord, have mercy on us. Christ, have mercy on us. Lord, have mercy on us. Gloria Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to men loved by God. We praise you, we bless you, we worship and glorify you. We give you thanks for your immense glory. Lord God, Heavenly King. God, allpowerful Father. Lord, only Son, Jesus Christ. Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father. You who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. You who takes away the sins of the world, hear our petition. You who reigns with the Father, have mercy on us. Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to men

loved by God. For you only are holy, only you, Lord, you only. You only are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the Glory of God the Father. Amen. Credo Father all-powerful, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in God, and in Jesus Christ I believe, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the work and grace of the Holy Spirit; he was born of the holy Virgin Mary. He suffered under the power of Pontius Pilate. He was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to hell. On the third day, he rose from among the dead. He went up to the heavens; he is seated at the right hand of God, Father all-powerful. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of the saints, and the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the flesh and life everlasting. Amen. Sanctus (see above) Agnus Dei Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
