Modern Pre-Raphaelite Visionaries: British Art 1880-1930 Temporary Exhibition Gallery, Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum Until Sun 18 September The exhibition is a rare opportunity to see the Gallery’s important collection of Modern Pre-Raphaelite artwork in the context of significant loans from around the country including works from the Tate, the British Museum, the Fitzwilliam Museum, Manchester Art Gallery and many more. Spirituality, symbolism, legends, and folklore fill the remarkable paintings and drawings on display in what is the first exhibition to explore this fascinating period of British art. ‘The exhibition was everything that I’d hoped it would be, have learnt a lot about the subject’.

Open 2022 Temporary Exhibition Gallery, Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum Fri 7 October – Sun 8 January 2023 We are delighted to present the Open 2022, an exciting exhibition providing a showcase for artists living and working in the West Midlands. Last seen in 2019, the Open has been a regular and popular feature of Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum’s programme since the 1930s. Open 2022 is sure to be an eclectic mix of artistic forms, with previous Opens featuring, amongst others, sculpture, photography, installation pieces, computer generated imagery and textiles.
Online submissions for the Open 2022 will open on Monday 18 July 2022. An independent panel of judges will select artworks for exhibition and the winner of the Open 2022 Award. They will receive £1,000, a Spotlight display at Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum and an opportunity to talk about their work at a Friday Focus talk. Harry Weinberger: Worshipper of Colour Fri 7 October – Sun 29 January 2023, Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum To celebrate the recent acquisition of two works by renowned local artist Harry Weinberger (19242009), LSAG&M will be showcasing their collection of his paintings, drawings and watercolours. These new acquisitions, portraits of the writer Iris Murdoch, highlight the artist’s close, long-lasting friendship.
France Brodeur : A Lasting Passion Fri 7 October – Sun 29 January 2023, Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum
Dr Rebecca Moden, whose research specialises in the life and art of Weinberger, will be giving a talk about the artist as part of our Friday Focus programme on 2nd December 2022.
This small display celebrates the life and work of local printmaker France Brodeur whose work explored the interface between abstract and representational forms, looking through surface appearances to their roots in change and loss. Born in Québec, and working and exhibiting internationally, France lived the last 20 years of her life in Leamington Spa, becoming an active member of the artistic community here. This display marks the re-launch of the France Brodeur Young Artists Award (FBYAA) which provides young creatives with funding for their proposed projects. 31
