2015 WALES DANCE PLATFORM 26, 27 & 28 June 2015 The 2014 Platform presented more than 30 professional choreographers in 40 events in a variety of performances, film, exhibitions, seminars, meetings and talks. Performers and choreographers came from all over Wales and it was an invaluable showcase for independent dance-artists. The WDP is unique in the UK, operating as a showcase where choreographers self-select their own work and have control over the work shown under their name. In 2015, Creu Cymru will lead a consortium of organisations to present the third Platform. Once again, the event will be three days of performances, films/videos and installations by Walesrelevant professional choreographers. All work will be self-selected and the Platform’s aim is to raise the profile of independent contemporary dance practitioners in Wales, strengthen relationships between dance-artists and presenters, and enhance critical debate. A further priority is to strengthen the link between Wales Dance Platform and British Dance Edition (which will come to Wales in 2016). The 2015 event is funded by an ACW grant that enables technical support and marketing to raise for the profile of the Platform. Dates and venues Friday 26 June: Saturday 27 June: Sunday 28 June:
Wales Millennium Centre: Weston Studio Theatre and opening party Chapter: Theatre, Stiwdio and Cinema The Riverfront: Theatres One and Two and closing party
Conditions of the Platform • The Platform is for independent or freelance choreographers who are Wales-relevant • Wales-relevant dance-artists who reside outside of Wales are welcome to apply • Any dance media will be considered: performance, film, talk, installation, improvisation, photography, or other intervention as defined by the dance-artists and choreographers • All work must be pre-defined as either ‘tryout’ or ‘finished’ and not been extensively toured within the previous 12 months • Programmes are combined on the basis of request, technical demands and artistic sensibilities.
