MUNICH’S CENTRAL PEDASTRIAN AREA The perfect mall in the city center: diverse shops, commercial centers, traditionally boutiques and souvenir stores. Location: Near to the Frauendom, at the Färbergraben is the end of the Kaufingerstraße which starts at the Marienplatz. There begins the Neuhauser Straße until the Karlstor, where more shops are located. LUXURY SHOPPING The best shopping area for glitz and glamour is the Maximilianstraße. The international fashion labels and designer boutiques like Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton and Hugo Boss, are inviting for high-end shopping. May you will meet one of the stars during your excursion! Location: The Street starts at Max-Joseph-Platz and straight ahead to the Maximilianeum. You also can meet the “chic of Munich“ at the Theatinerstraße, which connects the Odeonsplatz with Weinstraße at the Marienplatz. This is one of the most elegant shopping streets in Munich. In addition to a huge range of shops and stores, there is the classy commercial center "Fünf Höfe". TRADITIONALLY BAVARIAN The lovers of „Lederhosen and Dirndl“ should visit the traditional store called Angermaier. Throughout the whole year the shop assistants advise about the new trends of Lederhose & Co just not during the Oktoberfest. You can enjoy seeing the traditional cloths and the Bavarian costumes and shop around the offering of traditional and modern dresses. Those are a must-see for their extraordinary designs. Location: Two stores are located in Munich, at the Viktualienmarkt and at the Donnersbergerbrücke (opening hours: MondyFrieday 10.00-19.00 pm, Saturday 10.00-18.00 pm).

A SELECTION OF SHOPS AT THE HACKENVIERTEL: This old district is characterized by little towers, jutties and decorated facades and stands for originality and quality. Enjoy and walk through the uncountable traditional boutiques passing by show windows full of antiques, creative and handmade products until you come to artistic shops. The district is also known for its gastronomy and traditional food. Location: Near to the big commercial center, surrounded by the Sonnenstraße, Neuhauserstraße and Kaufingerstraße. SHOPPING-MALLS During a rainy day, for example, the “Olympia Einkaufszentrum” with its countless shops and restaurants attracts visitors. THIS IS MY MUNICH: Welcome to Munich! Visiting the cultural side of Munich

My name is Silvia and I am your expert from the TRYP Munich City Center in terms of culture! I would like to propose you the following route by which you get to know the city from the cultural side during your stay. The easiest way to start this route is by taking the subway to the train station “Lehel”.

ANGEL OF PEACE (FRIEDENSENGEL) The statue of the angel of peace, situated on a Corinthian column, reminds of the 25 years of peace after the German-French revolution (1870/71) and was built on the 10th May 1896. By taking the steps you will reach a platform which offers you an amazing view over the river “Isar” and the “Prinzregentenstraße”. BAVARIAN NATIONAL MUSEUM After just a few minutes of walking along the “Prinzregentenstraße” you will get to the Bavarian National Museum on the right hand-side which was built by King Maximilian II. The museum house shows a collection of European art and culture and is opened from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m. One highlight is the world-famous exhibition of cribs as well as the art collection “Bollert”. ENGLISH GARDEN The English Garden is one of the largest metropolitan park areas in Europe, is situated right behind the “Prinzregentenstraße”. Especially during summer times it is a meeting point for everyone. Before entering the park you should have a look at the city-surfer on the river “Eisbach” (Prinzregentstraße 1), hitting the wave throughout the whole year. In the centre of the park you can enjoy a lovely view over Munich from the Greek temple “Monopteros”. LUDWIGSTRASSE This major boulevard starts from the “Odeonsplatz” with the “Feldherrnhalle” (The hall was built in 1841, became famous during World War II and is now the access to the pedestrian zone) and ends with the “Siegestor” (A copy of the Arch of Constantine in Rome, built in 1840, which reminds of the triumphant ending of the Wars of Liberation in 1815). Along this circular road you find the Bavarian National Library as well as the main buildings of the “Ludwigs-Maximilians”-University. At the “Odeonsplatz” it is worth visiting the first late baroque church north of the Alps, the “Theatinerkirche”.

WHERE TO EAT BAVARIAN FOOD? Especially in summer times you should enjoy a traditional Bavarian „Brotzeit“ in the beer garden „Chinesischer Turm“ situated in the heart of the English Garden. During the cold days you can have excellent Bavarian food in the Restaurant or stop by the long-established Munich Restaurant “Zum Franziskaner”, at the end of this trip on Residenzstraße 9. WHERE TO GET A SNACK? Directly behind the Bavarian National Museum the „bnm Cafe and Restaurant“ with its garden terrace is an idyllic hotspot for a cup of tea or coffee and a snack. The former Royal Warrant Holder „Cafe Rottenhöfer“, on Residenzstraße 25 – 26, leaves nothing to be desired during your tea-time. SPECIAL SHOPPING PLACES? The Shopping Mal „Fünf Höfe“, Theatinerstraße 15, is an awarded example for modern architecture. Boutiques, bars and cafes invite to a shopping tour. In this Mal you also find the “Hypokunsthalle“, with periodically changing exhibitions, and its museum shop.
