SURVEY TRENDS & FORCES Autonomous Driving 2014 The Future of ADAS From February 27 - 28, 2014, we.CONECT invited an international audience of automotive professionals from departments such as Vehicle Dynamics, Driver Assistance and ADAS to the premier Autonomous Driving 2014 The Future of ADAS conference in Berlin. More than 200 global automotive professionals, team leaders and engineering managers from OEMs, Tier1 & suppliers, global research institutions and market gathered in February 2014 to benchmark their projects and strategies to the status of autonomous driving. Within the 2 conference days, delegating professionals participated in a short industry survey, which highlighted valuable trends and forces of the automated driving evolution. The we.CONECT Autonomous Driving survey 2014 compiled data collected from a total of 117 engineers, researchers, senior researchers, board members, directors, senior managers and team leaders from the global autonomous driving industry. It offers predictions and insights into current challenges, technological innovations and industry drivers, and showcases the diverse expectations related to the usability and application of autonomous driving. Industry Trends & Forces for Autonomous Driving 2014  Autonomous Driving is closest to be realized in Off-Highway / Mining (48%), followed by Shuttle Services and Public Transport (26%)  48% expect full autonomous driving to take 10-15 years until realization  A likely break-through application for autonomous driving is ‘Automated Highway Driving’ (41%) Challenges to Autonomous Driving  Significant inhibiting factors for autonomous driving are regulatory mandates / legal restrictions (24%), liability issues (20%) and safety concerns Promises of Autonomous Driving  At the same time, industry professionals rate the factors of safety (22%), reduced stress levels (19%) and reduced traffic congestion (14%) as the top promises and benefits gained from autonomous driving Impact of Autonomous Driving  81% See autonomous driving as an opportunity for the overall automotive industry  53% expect for new market entrants to play a significant role in the evolution of autonomous driving, 39% suggest that already established OEMs will dominate
