It is with great pleasure and pride that I welcome you to the 2022–2023 performance season at Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA)! I hope that you – like me – are looking forward to the many spectacular musicals, concerts, performances, and events that our student artists have planned and prepared for us this year.
I find myself continuously inspired by the excellence of this school and the passion and dedication of our students and staff. Last year alone, OCSA was ranked the #1 Charter High School in California (for the third year in a row!) and the #6 Charter High School in the nation by Niche. OCSA was also one of only 33 schools in the state to be awarded the California Exemplary Arts Education Award by the California Department of Education. Looking at the Class of 2022, 98% of students were accepted into institutions of higher education, and collectively, they were awarded more than $15 million in scholarships. OCSA continues to be the place where students can flourish artistically and academically and enter the world prepared for what is in store.
While we recently concluded an extraordinary anniversary year, there are many exciting things on the horizon. This season will be full of new beginnings: the first year of our brand-new Arts & Enterprise Conservatory, which will welcome the next generation of music producers, film executives, and museum curators; the groundbreaking of The Lisa Argyros Commons, made possible through the impressive efforts of Students First: A Capital Campaign; and so much more. These incredible developments will benefit not only our current students, but also all those who will one day call OCSA home.
The continued success of our school cannot be achieved alone. I would like to express my appreciation to our 2022–2023 Season Sponsors, McKenna Subaru and Farmers & Merchants Bank, as well as to our Board of Trustees, Foundation Board of Directors, Emeritus Board, Strategic and Educational Partners, President’s Circle, and Encore members. Their continued support, leadership, and vision help to shape the lives of our students each and every day.
Finally, I must acknowledge our parents, alumni, administrators, faculty and staff, members of the local community, and most importantly, our talented student artists. Our students provide the inspiration and driving force behind everything we do.
I am thrilled to have you join me in celebrating another impressive performance season. Please enjoy all of the magic OCSA has to offer!
All the best,
Teren M. Shaffer President & CEO Orange County School of the ArtsWe provide an unparalleled arts and academic education in a creative, challenging, and nurturing environment to a diverse group of students who are passionate about the arts, preparing them to reach their highest potential.
Established in 1987, the nationally recognized Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) offers a dynamic school culture that enables students to flourish as artists and scholars. The school currently serves a diverse student body of nearly 2,300 students in grades 7-12 from more than 100 cities throughout Southern California.
In addition to offering a challenging college-preparatory academic program that produces high-achieving, motivated scholars, OCSA provides aspiring young artists with the opportunity to refine their skills and flourish in one of 17 arts conservatories. Each year, more than 200 concerts, recitals, staged performances, and exhibitions are presented at a variety of venues in Orange County and throughout the world, providing students with the unique experience of entertaining and inspiring thousands of audience members.
OCSA is a tuition-free, donation-dependent public charter school; no student is offered or denied admission based on financial capacity. The school’s rigorous academic education coupled with advanced arts training has impacted many students, molding generations of creative thinkers, leaders, artists, innovators, and entrepreneurs.
RANKED #1 BEST CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL IN CALIFORNIA Niche, 2022
This annual campaign provides additional support for arts conservatory needs beyond each conservatory’s annual budget. A Hearts for the Arts donation will help to fund special equipment and supplies, performances and eld trips, and arts enrichment opportunities for our talented students.
This annual program supports economically disadvantaged students who attend OCSA. Donations not only help to fund the arts conservatory portion of their school day, but also make certain they have access to the full OCSA experience, including yearbooks, technology, and school supplies.
This annual program supports high-pro le visiting artists who create meaningful and often life-changing experiences for our student artists. An important instructional strategy at OCSA is to bring master artists and industry leaders to share their gifts, career stories, and expertise with students through residencies, master classes, lectures, and performances.
